I was listening to the This Week in Tech (TWiT) podcast, and one of the panelists of the show says he knows why iOS always feels silky smooth when swiping through homescreens, menus, etc. And it's a really simple reason: in iOS you're actually swiping through full screen "images" of icons. So there is very little for the OS to do processor wise.

Conversely, in Android, when you swipe through home screens all the icons, widgets, etc are being animated left and right, so the OS is doing a lot more processing, and there is more potential for lag.

If it's as simple as that, then I wonder why Android isn't doing this too.

There are numerous other reasons why iOS seems "snappier" than Android, but they all boil down to the age-old discussion of true multitasking (Android) versus not (iOS). I prefer a device that's a little top-heavy in how it handles its own processes to one that looks good on the surface but doesn't juggle as many balls nearly as well.

Incidentally, you can reduce or eliminate screen animations easily. This can be done through most of the launchers currently in use, and I believe through the phone's Settings menu as well, and it will reduce home screen lag (to differing degrees on different devices).

You can't dispute the facts but I don't think this article is gonna do anything to win over people are not already pro Android or at least anti Apple. Lol

Sorry but one only needs to read slightly into the blog linked to see its total crap. Android fanboy zealot to the extreme.

True, but that doesn't change the fact that many of the things he wrote were correct.

Many are, but it's still a awful piece of writing.

And he really weakens his credibility in some of his attacks on apple; like releasing products, then releasing new products shortly afterwards with better specs; specifically citing the 2month period between the original iPad and iPad2!

That's simply not true, and so obviously untrue that I find it hard to take any of his claims seriously unless they're simply verifying stuff I was already aware of.
