I have a TracFone smartphone (LGL22C) with 360 Security installed on it. Today I was reading an article on the internet, when the phone snapped a picture of me, and put it in a folder in my Gallery called "snooper".

I immediately ran a virus scan, but found nothing. I searched the internet, and see that there are a lot of snooper programs you can install on your phone, but I have never installed one. I also noticed that some other things on my phone changed (i.e. Data was turned on, set to vibrate, and a new weather notification app).

The only thing I can think of is I ran some updates the other day (mostly Google stuff). Might they have installed some stuff of my computer I don't want? How do I get it off? I don't see anything like "Snooper" in my list of apps?

    Thanks

Sounds like part of the 360 Security app.

On another note, I would recommend uninstalling 360. AV apps are not necessary if you only download apps from the Play Store. Also, 360 puts alot of adware on your phone and really is counter productive.

360 Security is snake-oil adware spyware, strongly suggest that you uninstall it.

That makes sense. I wonder why it thought I was snooping though. I was simply reading an article on CNN when it did it.

Regarding the comments about the 360, I do find all the pop ups quite annoying. So, all the "Cool Down" and "Boost" functions it preforms on my phone are rather worthless? I wouldn't mind dumping it, if I feel I am not putting my phone at risk by doing so.

Completely worthless. They are just putting a different spin on task killing which is going to fight your OS and task your phone. You're putting your phone at greater risk by keeping it.

I'm sure there's less risk, because your personal data will no longer be phoned home to the Qihoo 360 servers in Beijing, for aggregation to third-parties. This is why it's free of course.

OK. Thanks for the information. I wish I had known a lot of this stuff before! It was on the Google Play store, and got very good reviews not just on-line, but from various computing magazines.

Is there any sort of program or app I should consider using in lieu of this?

AV apps are not really needed if you only download apps from the Play Store.

If you really want an AV app, I'd recommend Malwarebytes.

"Good" reviews like you saw for 360 are alot of fakes to drive up the score. I tried 360 years ago and noticed more pop up ads than normal. I uninstalled and my phone ran smooth again.
