    Hey guys!

So here we are, July 13th, the day in which Froyo was rumored to be released for the moto DROID. I thought I'd put up this thread in hopes that we could keep each other updated about when we receive it. Personally, I have not gotten the OTA update yet. Strangely, the only thing that's been happening for me is power cycling today! So have any of you guys gotten Froyo yet?

    Cheers

You do realize there is a 90+% chance the rumors are full of crap and we will not be receiving it for a month+ right?

I do understand that, I was simply asking the community because this was the biggest rumored day that I had heard of.

but it will probly be a good while before it goes more released, atbest the new release phones may get it but they may have the others wait longer so the new guys feel special.

On Motorola Europe's Facebook page last night, they said 2.2 and Flash 10.1 are still being tested/checked and will come when it comes. So just hold on tight. But they did say a new update to 2.1 was due very soon, to fix a few bugs and issues, but agian no fixed dates.

I hate to wave the flag of "conspiracy"....We already have enough of it in our lives. And to show just how ignorant I am, the question(s):

Can Google be working on a 2.1 update in response to their financial brotherhood with Verizon (and whatever other big players may be involved), to drop the 2.1 update that may contain a patch? Like, possibly, a patch that may dis-allow wireless hot spot? That is, a patch that may block wireless hot spot without having to pay the carrier another MF 'ing $20/mo?

I don't know. I'm used to all kinds of business dates being missed. Especially the ones that put "benefit to the user" in the forefront. The beauty is that when a "rumored" date is missed, then whomever misses it can tell anyone who complains to simply "get a life".

In a way, they are right. I know I need to wirelessly (is that a word?) connect my iPad. And, with my Moto Droid, Froyo is supposed to be the ticket. But that's not my WHOLE life.

However, for me, if they (Verizon, Google, Whomever) don't come through soon, I'm taking my $200/month away from Verizon, changing out all my hardware, changing out my family's hardware, and moving off somewhere that may still be able to fake me out when they say,"We care about our customers"....

For now, I'll shut my trap. When Froyo, or any other OTA firmware that gives me what I'm already paying for, doesn't come by October, I'm outta the Verizon grasp...this time, forever.

    Rant: OFF

    Magwa,
If you were around for the whole 2.1 push to the Droid you would realize the delays are more Motorola than Verizon. MOTOROLA has to make sure their device will take the update and run well. MOTOROLA was pushing the 2.1 update and had issues with bandwidth through a "4th party" for the push. It's not like Verizon says "ok, we have 2.1 in our hands, click this box to push to all Android devices". It sounds like you're looking for ANY reason to get out of your Verizon contract, do us all a favor and just do it now.

BTW, I think Google has release 2.2 to the manufacturers, they're not the delay here. It's also not like Verizon is purposely disabling features. Have you looked at the Evo plan pricing on Sprint. I've heard that you pay EXTRA for 4G, you pay EXTRA for WiFi tether, on top of the standard "unlimited everything" plan. Oh yeah, you HAVE to pay the extra for 4G even if you're not in a 4G area, the WiFi tether may be optional. Look it up, maybe Verizon's not so bad (right now).

Well, thanks for the advice. Once again, when one makes an errant assumption, sometimes it precludes that person from getting a grasp of the more main-stream points of the communication....In this case, there was humor attached to the main point...That is, being wary about a company's corporate, short-term thought process. I believe I even stated that I was "ignorant". (BTW, that means open to learning from a credible source)

To translate my initial post for you succinctly, I was trying to flippantly ask for the reason that Froyo is not yet out (remember that I said, "I am ignorant"?). I have my own suspicions that are not founded in fact, but are borne out by historical data.

By the way, I've been paying Verizon every month since they started in the business...or at least since *I've known*, they've been in the business. They love me.

Again, thanks for the advice. I'm sure your use of the words "us all", ("...do *us all* a favor...") as exclusive as it was intended, will find some like-minded, and some repulsed. Such is life.

    Best to you,

    Magwa

I don't see anywhere stating that "ignorant" means "open to learning from a credible source". All the definitions from Webster reference 'being destitute of knowledge or education.'
Here, I'll add to your education with a link to the M-W definition of the word 'ignorant' http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/ignorant

My understanding of the definition led me to believe that you didn't pay attention to previous OTA updates and had no clue as to how they're handled or what would delay one.

BTW, I don't think Verizon has any input into delaying the update or even what features are included, unlike the lower-feature phones they offer. Notice that at least the Eris and the Droid don't have ANY Verizon branding in the OS, the only place I see Verizon in the software is in the Market where there is a "Verizon" section. Motorola, more than Verizon, controls the update, and even they use a 3rd-party to send it out.

Thanks, again. I need all the education I can get.

Here's one you might like: Language is a moving target. If I write on the forum, in the aforementioned shorthand, that "I'm destitute of knowledge or education", I'll tell you what that means: I'm open to learning from a credible source.

But, none of this is the point. And this is not the platform for either of us to flex muscles we may not have toned up since English 101; M,W,F 8:00-9:00.

Believe it or not, I consider you a credible source. For things Android. As to the art of personal interaction? I don't drink. But maybe you'll let me buy you a beer some day. Bring that dictionary so we can talk.

Which is exactly the reason I rooted and installed BB on my Droid. I drive a truck for a living and not having Bluetooth voice dialing was a major drag. Works pretty well now.

But what is the point of having an Android device that doesn't run Android?

    Hmmmm... lets see,

Verizon: 69.99 + 19.99 + 29.99 unlimited talk, text, web. Thats what I was paying and JUST left them a month ago with my Droid

Sprint: 119.99 + 9.99 I have Evo, Wife has Pixie. We have unlimited mobile to mobile talk to ANY cellphone(which 99.9% of all my contacts use), text, web and 1500 landline minutes(which we might use 300 combined for 800 numbers, or business calls) and 4G which works good here in Portland, OR getting 4.7M down. I am fortunate to have it in my area, but if you dont it's not fair really to have to pay that 4G premium but still 69.99 + 9.99 beats Verizon's deal.

I think Sprint is cutting the best deal. I pay the same for 2 phones that I was paying for 1....

In case you didn't know, BB stands for Bugless Beast, which is a custom ROM version of Android 2.2

I kind of figured that no update was going out that day. Sure, there were rumors flying every which way, but no official word from verizon OR motorola just told me, "this isn't going to happen today." Don't worry, when it comes, it comes, and it will be glorious.
