yes, to run android apps completely, you would have to root it. The Nook Color alerady comes with Android, but it is not fully unlocked for yur use, so you ca't use your own UI, so thus root will unlock additional features to turn it intoa full fledged tablet
Actually the Nook already is running Android ... a customized version by B&N. If you want to run full Android, you don't have to root. All you have to do is create a bootable SD card and reboot the Nook with the SD card in the slot. Since the Nook is designed to always look at the SD card first, you will boot into whatever is on the SD card. To return to stock B&N Nook, just reboot without the SD card.
