so, i completed all the steps. easy enough.
now, which rom do i install, and how do i do it?
any ROM you want. Whichever suits your needs.
To install, simply put the ROM on your SDcard (in the root of the card, not in any folders), reboot into recovery (hold home while powering on), and select "flash zip from sdcard", and flash the one you have on there. Each ROM is a bit different, some require a wipe when coming from a different ROM. They have instructions on the first page of the post on XDA (most do anyway)
another question, maybe dumb...but i rooted on my stock sd card. i have a 16 gig...will i have to go through all those steps again or will my 16 gig card work fine?
I rooted with everything on my 2 gig card. have 2 nandroid backups on it about 100 songs, 2 roms 3 recovery images and still have a little room left
flash any ROM made for the CDMA Hero.. other ROMs will brick the phone...
as far as the SD card.. you rooted the phone, not the SD card.. no need to go through it again
does it take a while to boot up?
Pretty sure I bricked it...stuck on htc screen. Is there anything I can do or am I screwed?
I can press home an get a white screen that asks if I want to delete all user data..
Let's start with the basics. What ROM did you flash?
i believe this was the link i used...
please tell me it was right:
[ROM] 04/13/10 | Fresh Rom 2.0d (Android 2.1) | Rosie LWP w/Espresso + OpenGL Fix - xda-developers
Being as you completed the root manually, please try this. Bring up a cmd prompt, and cd to your sdk/tools folder. Once there please type the following:
This should boot you back into recovery mode. The reason you got stuck on the boot screen is likely because you didn't follow the instructions flipz and others have posted. You must WIPE when flashing his ROM. There are instructions on how to do this on the Guide/FAQ.
If you are able to boot into recovery wipe both data and dalvik then re-flash the signed zip.
try these volume down- power that should give the recovey option!!!
And yes, that ROM is ok to flash as long as you indeed have the Sprint CDMA Hero
do i want my phone on that white screen, connected to my desktop when i type what you wrote? and do i click enter after each line?
Let's try this step by step:
1. Plug your phone into your computer. Do NOT mount your SD Card.
2. Open up a cmd prompt and type the following (and yes you hit enter after each)
STOP right here. Make sure after entering the above it returns something (which will be your Device serial number same as it was when you rooted it manually). If it doesn't show that, please let us know. If it does, please continue
From there, please do as I suggested above, as long as this boots you into recovery (The black screen with the green text).
it says "error: device not found"...i have it on the white screen with text. so the phone is on.
should i select one of the options from the text?
"delete all user data?
Ok then. Please try the following:
I understand that in other posts you said you tried holding down the home button, but I am thinking you did not do it correctly. Simply pull the battery, put it back in. Press and hold the Home button, continue holding it while pressing and the releasing the power button.
This should boot you into recovery if you can't get it via command line.
No, you should not.
ok, that did work. i'm on the android system recovery screen.
now wipe? or backup/restore?
I understand that you are frantic and want to get this to work. However, PLEASE SLOW DOWN AND READ. I have already told you what to do.
Once in recovery, please wipe both data and dalvik, then re-flash the ROM (zip file) same as you did before.
There is no need to restore yet.
ok, i'm sorry. i just don't want to screw it up.
data wipe worked...davlik says "error: run "wipe dalvik" via adb!
You should be ok. It often gives that error but worked anyways. Go ahead and try flashing the ROM again.
