With the Eris, once it's rooted following the steps over at XDA, can one return to stock 1.5? For obvious reasons, this would be handy. I know that the droid can unroot in about 20 minutes if the need arises, and it's nice to have the option.

    Anyone? Bueller?

    From http://www.thefuzz4.net/home/AndroidPhones/Eris/HowToRootYourHTCEris.aspx:

"Also be aware that once you go up to 2.1 you cannot as of yet roll back to 1.5 so you either do this or don't."

So, it may be possible soon, but not yet.

wait I am confused. If you root 1.5 how does that make you go to 2.1? Can you not just root 1.5 and wait for the official 2.1?

I understand you cannot go from 2.1 back to 1.5 at this point, but can you go from unrooted 1.5 to rooted 1.5 back to unrooted 1.5?

That link's borked...does it refer to the leaked version of 2.1, or the rooting process?

1.5 is not actually rooted. You are installing a rooted version of 2.1

SO question still remains. Is it reversible?

Not yet. The current process updates your 1.5 phone to a rooted 2.1, and so a downgrade to 1.5 is not possible. I'm sure down the road we'll have a way to un-root (de-root? dis-root?), but it doesn't appear that way right now. Someone else correct me if I'm wrong.

To unroot wouldn't one just flash the 2.1 leak?

That possibly would work if you wanted to, since the leak 2.1 is a higher firmware version than the root version.

There's a rooting Q&A thread. But nah, you probably won't find your answer there.
