i just got two moto droids (arrive on sat) reading this forum has made me worried and happy at the same time. But im honestly sick of itunes, really i hate it !

Only thing so far has me worried is the pinch zoom feature, having 3 pages and facebook app sucking (all of this is upon reading here), aside from that im really exited and im looking forward to the emulators like REALLY looking forward to them. Also Att is meh where i live and Verizon is solid.

    Traffic reports sounds fun ...

Why do you love your droid and if you a switcher like me ...are you happy you did it??

One last question ...should i stick with the Moto Droid or should i wait for the next best droid phone??....i still have 31 days to make my mind up so i have time to play around with it.

changing phones is a big deal for me since honestly im not rich and in 2 months i will be having my first baby (my fiancee is , ill just watch her lol)
im really happy for my boy coming to this worl yay!

I am happy I made the switch, but only because of Verizon vs AT&T (same reason as your switch)

    1. The pinch and zoom should be fixed today with the OTA update to android 2.1
    2. Just install a launcher like Helix from the market if you need more than 3 homescreens, but I have found 3 is fine when you can use folders
    3. Facebook sucks, no way around that, just use the site in your browser instead of the app

I would say get the Nexus one or HTC incredible if they are available on verizon while you are still in you exchange period. I am used to switching phones frequently with the exception of my iPhone so no bug deal for me to switch and pay retail, I'm used to it.

    BTW, congrats on the baby

There are things I like about it and things I liked better about the iPhone. My iPhone 3GS was jailbroken but here are the things I like better about each one:

    iPhone:
    1. no keyboard, better physical design
    2. Apps, android is catching up and most the apps I used on my iPhone are available on my Droid now, but most of the apps were better on the iPhone with a few exceptions
    3. Games, android does not even compare
    4. Multimedia - I liked being able to rent movies or buy tv shows on iTunes, the Droid media player sucks but I mostly use slacker so that doesn't really bother me
    5. My calendar was on my lockscreen, I have to unlock my Droid to see my calendar
    6. App store, much easier to browse and find new apps on iPhone
    7. Customization - I used bosspaper, if you weren't jailbroken you won't miss it, but it was great
    8. Push notifications - the time I really miss them is during football season

    Droid:
    1. Google navigation - I tried all the navigation apps on iPhone and so far I like google maps navigation better than any of them and its free on the Droid
    2. Slacker is better on the Droid because I can cache music for when I don't have a signal, on a flight, etc
    3. Verizon - the biggest advantage
    4. Widgets - I use a couple, not really a big deal, but nice to have
    5. Contact syncing - love the integration with gmail and facebook contacts
    6. Google voice - I use it for voicemail, it takes visual voicemail to the next level and types out the voicemail so you can listen to it or read it, very nice
    7. Flash for the camera is nice

If your iPhone wasn't jailbroken then multitasking apps is a HUGE advantage for the Droid, customization is another big one. I was already doing these on my iPhone though.

After I upgrade to the Nexus 1 on verizon I don't think I will miss my iPhone nearly as much, unless apple really delivers on their promise and this June there is an "A+ upgrade" to the iPhone.

Oh and one more thing. If you like the iPhone text messaging app and hate the android one, which is how I was, download "Handcent" from the market, great messaging app with lots of options including the look and feel of the iphone messaging app.

My iPhone had all of those emulators and played them just fine. In fact the only difference between the emulators on the iPhone and Droid is you can use the keyboard for controls on the Droid if you want.

And I was referring to game apps that are designed to be played on a touchscreen device with an accelerometer, not emulators.

As mentioned above, 2.1 has it. Certain apps already have it (xScope, Dolphin, Google Maps, etc).

That's a bit much to go into. The short version is that the Droid suits me very well. I'm definitely happy I switched to it (from a Blackberry 8310).

That's one of the most common questions on every Android forum. Thing is, the answer is a judgment call that you need to make for yourself. Compare the specs and decide if the switch is worth it to you. I don't see any drastic improvements in the pipeline and I'm not a fan of HTC so I wouldn't but YMMV.

FYI, Droid != Android. They're 2 different things.

Look up some homescreen replacements if you're interested in customization. Even jailbroken, an iPhone's customization doesn't even compare. Here, and here, and here. Rooted? Grab a Desire ROM and now you can pinch your homescreen to "leap" into an overview of all your seven homescreens like this.

If you want widgets on your lock screen, take a look at Flyscreen.

Again if you look at my previous post my iPhone was jailbroken, so yes you are correct apple does not allow it, but they don't allow multitasking and wallpapers either like my phone had.

With every software update since 2.0 they have been putting the "final kill" on jailbreaking, the point is they don't because they know they need it. They make their billions by selling hardware and they know they would sell a lot less if people couldn't jailbrake to make up for their shortcomings.

No the camera on this phone is not very good. I don't think its a hardware problem but a software one. I hope I'm right and they can fix it some time in the future.
