Last nite my phone slipped out of my hand in the bathroom and did a 360 and landed on its face on the hard stone bathroom floor. I heard a loud sound like Window glass shattering.
I picked up my phone and the whole left side of the screen was CRACKED!
The right side semi cracked. Although still funcioning. Metros site says its shatter resistant. NO WAY SHATTER PROOF! Disappointed with gorilla glass.
My phone is rooted but without a custom rom. I plan on factory resetting once asurion sends the replacement. pain in butt unroot and reroot all over again. Word to the wise ALL PHONES BREAK! Always buy insurances its five bucks a month. This calamity cost me 99 bucks.

I guess I've been lucky. I've dropped my phone on the shop floor twice, out of the truck once or twice and once getting out of a U haul on to the driveway. That was like a 5 foot drop. Every time was on concrete and only have a couple nics in the plastic.

But yea its not bullet proof. It can break and scratch

True that everything is breakable, but I am starting to think the Esteem doesnt really have gorilla glass. I've seen test n it takes alot more to break it than what its been taking to break the esteem/revo's. Just my opinion tho ;)

my experience with the esteem was different. dropped it a handfull of times but never got even a scratch on the screen. compared to the iphone's crappy glass haha its immortal.

Ah sorry to hear that yours may have Chimpanzee Glass or something. Well you are getting new phone, who knows they may offer you Connect as an upgrade.

I also dropped mine couple of times (out of my pocket, from hand, from table..) but luckly no kwnon damage so far.

That's why I'm grateful to have my plastic shield case with the kickstand so If I drop it face down, it'll hit the thick outer edges of the case so it would't really hit the screen face. But for a phone of this worth, insurance is a must.

It doesn't matter if it had Rhino glass, Incredible Hulk glass... it's still glass.

It's not made to be dropped from heights higher than your pocket or else the glass would be a half inch thick.

I have also had my phone on my lap and got out of my vehicle and launched it onto the concrete. Every time I have dropped mine, it's come out unscathed lol.

Just put in your insurance claim, get a new one and then spend the 15-25 bucks on a case. Much cheaper than forking out 100 clams every time.

    :)

I've dropped it while riding my bike, and a couple of times @ my house. So far nothing has broken or crack just some cosmetic wear. Ive also dropped my evo3d while riding my bike and pretty much the same thing its good. Oh I don't have any cases or screen protectors

Theres a huge difference from being scratch resistant and shatter ressistant lmao if ya wanted something shatter proof perhaps these companies need to start using bullet proof glass atleast 3 inch thick lol

the new version 2 gorilla glass will be prove to be stronger so dont know what to really expect from their new improved product but heres a sneak peak for those of ya that did not bother watching the 2012 ces on youtube.

I've dropped mine, thrown it through a door yes THROUGH a closed door, embedded it in a wall, and threw it directly. onto a tile floor. (A few anger issues I'm working on) nothing is broke but the battery door is a little worse for wear. lol

Reason why having a case is more important to me than an extended battery with no case. Just sayin

I've dropped mine a few times, not more than a 2-3 foot drop, but luckily I always have a TPU case on my phone so it's came out unscathed through it all

a buddy of mine from the howard forum pointed out that the actual stock screen protector that came with the esteem is actually the best and to leave it on and i have to agree with him i left mine for a month then later decided to purchase one from a metro store since they were so cheap but regretted it....

Nice. Yeah I hardly drop my phone and when it does, it falls on the corners and my case takes the hit. I just took off my screen protector a month ago and my screen is still spotless like new so I might keep it off. Plus it looks much better without it :)

The front and back of the iPhone 4/4s are covered in Gorilla Glass and those break all the time. This stuff is not indestructible, it's just hardened and is meant to prevent scratches.

The gorilla glass is break and scratch RESISTANT, not break and scratch proof. I know, sucks. I was trying to show off my gorilla glass to a friend and took a box cutter to it. no scratches at all. Then I got brave and really dug into it ( stupid i know, but i was amazed myself how nothing happened the first time) and now i see like a little scribble on the glass whenever it hits the light at a certain angle. Needless to say that was the end of me trying to show off.

Just scratch resistant gorilla glass one that is. If ya watched my video on gorilla glass two they raised the resistance point further I mean the dude put Alot weight into it and couldn't even phase it but let's put under a car's tire and see the results lol
