We won't be able to purchase and install from them?
Sorry, I'm not aware of why we won't be able to purchase from them. What do you know?
I guess I thought it would be considered side loading. I am new to the Android game...switching from iPhone.
At the moment are we allowed to purchase apps from any other source other than the Android App Store?
So we will be able to buy from Amazon App Store?
That would be awesome.
While I don't know it for a fact... If anyone has the influence to make it happen, its Amazon.
The issue is sideloading, which may also be an issue for amazon. If Amazon only allows the app to install from the amazon market, we are screwed (unless you root and enable non-market apps) since the install will be blocked by AT&T. If Amazon lets you download the apk file to your pc, you can use ADB or the sideload wonder mechine to install it. It all depends on if amazon will let us have the app or not.
I'd imagine that it would be a direct install and we would not be provided an apk. Providing apk's would make it harder to prevent piracy of paid apps.
If you turn On airplane mode and wifi you can access the market with out the AT&T block. You do not have to be rooted.
Really? this basically enables side loading? Quite cool.
This doesn't allow you to sideload apps.
No it is not sideloading. Sideloading has to do with apps that are not on the market. The method I mentioned allows for app that are on the market but AT&T block from their version of the market.
How did you get around installing taking these steps? I tried it, but amazon Amazon_Appstore-release-1.apk tries to install I get the "Security warning" This application comes from an uknown source.
I only get the OK option. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
I was able to install the Amazon_Appstore-release.apk, by using the Sideload Wonder Machine program on my computer since my phone isn't rooted. But when I try to install a application using Amazon apps application I get the message:
So is there a way around this on an unrooted phone or am I at the point of having to root to be able to use Amazon Apps that I have installed?
I want the free Angry Birds Rio
Does this trick work with the Amazon app store?
I think I left that out in my original post. Same question on my end...I want the Free Angry Bird Rio also...
Yeah I just rooted today and got the Amazon store so that I could get the new Angry Birds Rio or whatever for free. It's not that great but whatever.
OK I've verified this works on my unrooted phone.
Use Sideload Wonder Machine to install Amazon Apps, run the Amazon Apps app and select an app to install. For example if you pick Angry Birds Rio it will download the .apk to the directory "Android/data/com.amazon.venezia/cache" on your phone the actual angry birds rio .apk is 'vnz42277.apk'. Now copy this .apk file to your Sideload Wonder Machine directory on your computer and install the .apk as normal.
that all seems like a lot more work than needed.
Just run aRoot.bat to enable root + sideloading:
[SCRIPT] aRoot for Atrix 4G [ root - init.d - sideloading - tethering ] - xda-developers
then run unroot.bat if you really want to disable root access
Thanks I'll give that a try!
