Hi, I received a T mobile software update this morning. The only details are it's 63.91 mbs in size. The only thing is, I have a Metro PCS version of Galaxy Lite. I have postponed installation till I get some info.

Has anyone else received this update or have any clue to what it addresses?

    Thanks.

Edit;... after speaking with customer service by phone, they have said this update is specifically for me,.... and not a general software update for all Galaxy Lite's. Being I put in a trouble ticket concerning losing connection for stretches at a time when the battery is low (less than 40%). I find this hard to believe. These customer service reps have very little information and can hardly answer any of your questions, much less help with your problems.

So please, if anyone else gets this software update, please post here. Thank you.

i got this update this morning. (and I didn't have any ticket) I let it happen.

I don't know what is different about it, but haven't had time to examine it either.

(by the way, same as you, I have it on Metro, and the top line of the announcement said it was an update from T-mobile)

Thanks for the feedback. It is very appreciated.

I knew the customer service rep was feeding me a bunch of bull. An OTA update just for me, please....

It's not just for you, of course; I got the same notice. Was hoping to find others who had been test pilots for this update so I knew what to expect, especially when T-Mobile/metroPCS says I could have to reinstall apps and data. Doesn't exactly fill me with a lot of confidence.

My sediments exactly. I'm still waiting for word myself. It's seems like quite a large update and I'm surprised there's no info anywhere about it.

Wondering if either of you guys are having connection issues like me. Only when the battery is low. Funny thing, if it's charging I have a network connection even at 5% battery capacity. But then again, it's charging so it's got juice, I gather. Guess I'll just carry an extra battery around with me, like I did with my LG Connect.

I really like this little device. I dealt with battery issues before, so this won't stop me. It's a shame though, cause this battery would last all day easily. But having no network connection at 35% battery strength kinda shortens it quite a bit if I'm out and about.

I would like to think this update addresses this issue, but that's most probably wishful thinking.

Can't say, ohbaby. In my case, I have connection problems with a full charge unless I'm near a wi-fi link, even in my own home. Doesn't impress me as living up to the coverage map, which was surprisingly spotty near my domicile anyway. And strangely, with no wi-fi showing (for example, my Internet provider had a major crash in a two-state area in the last 48 hours or so), the phone has connectivity issues even if it's showing a strong 4G LTE signal. It's exceedingly weird. As to battery life, I'm trying not to recharge the phone until the level drops to no more than 50%. I'm still trying to find a dock for this phone, preferably one that includes a charging slot for a spare battery. I haven't even looked for a spare battery for this yet; I'm just coming off a Droid Razr Maxx, which used the Bad Thing mindset of an Apple product and had a sealed case with no way to swap out the battery. So I'm not up to speed on carrying around spare batteries just yet, as I have no reliable way to charge them other than the phone itself.

I would love to see kitkat 4.4.* for this device... I only use it as a backup device but it sucks that I cannot even use my gear live or any android wear device with it thanks to outdated software....can't wait til the 19th n6 here I come.

Not sure about your device, ggfb20; mine came with 4.4.2 installed on it. If I knew what changes the update would make to the device, I could make an informed decision as to going for the update or postponing it indefinitely.

Thanks Paul, but unfortunately we have the Metro PCS version of Galaxy Lite with Kitkat. And I guess this "software" update is specifically for this version. I see no mention of it on those T Mobile links you supplied. Thanks anyway. It was very kind of you.

I'm sorry km2002 your having connection issues with a full battery. I wouldn't deal with that unless I was in a poor coverage area. I live in NYC so generally connectivity and speed is excellent, when I have a connection. Unfortunately, I'm having issues when the battery is low.

Is there a reason you won't go below 50%?

i also have the metro pcs version of the galaxy light on kitkat, and i also received an update.. so anyway when i updated, the only thing i noticed was on my pre-installed apps, the mobile hotspot has changed.. it now says tethering.. although the same rules still apply when trying to activate.

Interesting, I didn't realized that there was a Metropcs version of the Galaxy light and that the version would come with Kitkat (the Tmobile version only comes in Jelly Bean). Now I am wondering if one can flash the metropcs kitkat rom on the TMobile phone and still have it work on the Tmobile network? I google but can't find the Metro PCS roms.

Hi Paul, I think that has been done, but not entirely sure. Check the XDA site, search galaxy lite. I think, again not sure, you would need to flash the T Mobile baseband, after flashing the rom(backup recovery). Even if it hasn't been done, then they are working on it.

I guess I will install this update today. Gonna start backing up my data first.

I wanna root this phone already. Been patiently waiting and testing this new device, before rooting to know what issues are phone specific, and not caused by rooting or debloating.

It seems like all hope is lost for the Galaxy Light SGH_T399 but according to Samsung it is scheduled to get Kitkat eventually..... see here When will my device receive the latest KitKat 4.4 software update? : Cell Phones | Samsung but the final say if from the individual carriers and they have yet to mention anything regarding Kitkat for this device. I use it as a backup device and hate that I do not have full chromecast functionality and also cannot even use my Gear Live or any Android Wear watch with anything below kitkat.

I guess its hurry up and continue waiting.

Sorry, ohbaby, I wasn't exactly clear in writing that. What I meant to say is that I'm trying not to charge the phone when the battery level is above 50%. I'm trying to burn the battery longer than I did with the Razr Maxx, and the problem there was that I was using the phone as my Internet connection, plus it was also my bedside alarm clock. So it was almost always plugged into something that charged it. This one, not so much, especially since I have a separate Internet connection now.

I can't see the attachments, Codawg. Says the attachment can't be found. (And the two attachments are repeated to boot.) Also, have you noticed any problems with your data? I keep getting a warning that the update can mess with both apps and data. One reason I haven't pulled the trigger.

Standby let me play with a couple things to check this for you. I don't know why the screenshots didn't act right but it was just a shot of my "about phone" page. The last 4 of the build number changed from ANH1 to ANK3.

OK. So aside from the build number changing, you haven't noticed any discrepancies in using your phone or your apps? And your data appear intact?

Apps working. The data is working good now. I think it has to settle down after the update because it was having trouble connecting at first so I left my Wi-Fi off and gave it about 5 minutes to sort itself out. So everything works. The phone seems faster. My Wi-Fi calling is now fixed. And very minor visual changes in only a couple spots. (dialer, notification dropdown is all I've noticed) Btw I'm on Metro if that helps.

That's helpful. BTW, I, too, am on Metro; seems we're the only users of the GL who are getting this message.

I downloaded the update immediately upon powering on my new GL on Metro. It downloaded and installed seamlessly.
