Apps Software which can copy all audio and Video files from Android device to System

Begin a new comer please ignore if something is wrong,
I've to develop a software which can copy all audio and Video files from Android device to System

Please let me know from where to begin.
What to cover first, either linux kernel or android system interface.

Do I need to learn linux kernel programming or android system interface only
I'm confuse kindly guide me.

This backup could be possible from one of the medium via USB cable or WiFi or other form of
connectivity.

I've to take backup of all audios and videos on my android device.

From where to begin:
I've Windows now try to moving to Ubuntu 12.04.3

Could anyone suggest me what does exactly require to develop this kind
of application.

Some one is suggesting start learning Linux kernel.

So please guide me.
