    Hello all,

Just rooted my HTC Desire android with Unrevoked which installed Clockworkmod recovery (Didn't work because I have the new NAND), then I installed AlphaRev (with S-OFF) Via VirtualMachine, everything seems peachy now.

My questions (Keeping in mind I have a PVT4 NAND):

    • If I were going for a custom rom, which should I try?
    • Do I just slap the roms as a zip on the root of the SD card and flash them from recovery and that's that?
    • Which apps/themes are particularly awesome with a rooted android? I'm looking for a basic list of stuff people with t00ted droids should have (Media Players, Over clocking, themes(?))
    • I've backed up and ended up with this (picture below), is that all I need to do backup wise? Should I do something dumb and fry the OS can I flash this back and all will be forgiven?

    • Can I delete "Update.zip"?
Thanks in advance for your answers.

    Regards
    Max

Not all pvt 4 devices have erase size 40000. Did you check this? Read rooting faq in "all about rooting" sticky.

It's only recovery affected. All Roms will work as long as you have the right recovery. Although would expect if you can back up, you have.

Update.zip sounds suspiciously like Rom manager to me. Don't use this.

I'm more familiar with the PSP in this respect, for example I have a TA-085 Slim PSP, it has battery EEPROM access, all other motherboards of the slim version do not. This is the same kind of thing, and yes... it is a PVT4 with erasesize40000, the associated errors match. Anyway, I've sorted that out, took me ages lol.

All roms will work hu? great, which do you suggest I play with and Is my backup sufficient to flash my stock settings back should I not like it?

ROMs are a matter of personal taste. Some want Sense (or a fancier version), some like it lean and mean. Check the "what ROM type are you using?" sticky thread to see what people say, but in the end the best is to think about what you want and try a few. Do read the first couple of posts of a ROM's thread at XDA though, as some have specific requirements. And if you don't understand something, find out what it means before flashing.

Edit: that looks like a nandroid backup, so if you leave a copy on your card you can go back to where you were when you took it. Back it supply to a computer before doing anything like partitioning the card though!

It won't let you copy apps/data to a new ROM though. You need a different type of backup for that. It's all in the rooting guide though.
