    Welcome to the forums!

Firstly - don't panic... this isn't anything to worry about... you can just pull the battery if your volume keys aren't working... but how did it get to this screen though... did you do anything to the phone?

I think you just pull the battery out and that should reset you! And don't hold volume keys while booting :p

Dixi's right... when you turn on, don't hold the volume keys (otherwise you'll end up back at the same screen) :)

It bounced out of my bag, but it was working when i picked it up. The volume keys are working now, i selected the recovery option and the phone buzzed then loaded the white screen with HTC on it. It then went to a black screen with a small picture of a phone with two green arrows on it - they looked a bit like the internet refresh icon. It then changed to another small phone with a red triange with an exclamation mark in it

Thanks for getting back to me :)

    Welcome to the forums! :)

As others have suggested, you normally get that screen when you turn the phone on whilst holding volume down. If you can't use the volume buttons and are seeing that screen, that might suggest an issue with the volume buttons.

When you pull the battery and start again, does that screen appear? If not, when you get in to the phone, do the buttons work as they should?

I took the battery out of phone and put it back in and turned it on as normal. The screen still comes up. Using the volume keys i selected the fastboot option, this said 'sd checking ..no image'
and repated itself a couple of times and then went back to the same screen again.

I then tried the recovery option, the white screen loaded with the green HTC sign, then two green arrows over a little htc phone appeared on a black screen, then the green arrows changed to a red triange with an exclamation mark in it. I hope its not knackered :(

If it's constantly going back into HBOOT when you turn it on and/or you can't use the volume keys then yes, you appear to have a problem, sorry. :(

Can you try one more battery pull please then let me know what happens.

It could be something as simple as the volume button being broken or something badly damaged internally. It's difficult to say unfortunately.

Given that you dropped it, it probably won't get repaired under warranty, but if you've insurance, that should hopefully cover it.

Thanks for all your help El Presidente! [I dont have insurance - need to get it today online!] I have just rung Orange and explained the problem [of course failing to inform them that it fell out of my bag] in which their response was that there is an error with the software so a new one is being sent out tomorrow night :) thanks again!! Tasha :) :) :)

Oh and i will also be buying a decent case! haha
