So I normally have a HTC One M8, but that is waiting to be sent to HTC for repair as it's not turning on. My brother gave me his old phone - a Sony Xperia (not sure specifically what model it is) - to use whilst mine isn't working and it's been working perfectly. But last night when I plugged it in to charge, I had to tweak the charger in a certain position to get it to charge. When it got to around 5% today, I plugged in the charger again but it wasn't working at all now, so I started tweaking it and holding it in different positions in the hope that it would start charging but it didn't. I tried my charger with my friend's phone and it worked fine, I also tried other working chargers with the Xperia and still nothing was happening - even when plugged in, there's no lightning bolt symbol or red LED light.
As you can imagine, I'm convinced I'm cursed after two phones breaking on me in the space of a week. Not to mention freaking out because it's my brother's old phone and when I tell him it's not working he's not going to be happy. So my question is, can I try anything to get it to work? If not, I'm assuming it's the battery or the charging port that's faulty, so if I were to take that to a repair place, how much would it cost?

    Hi

The price of servicing/repair will depend on where in the world you are!

It sounds like it could be just a dirty charging port on the phone. Maybe try a high pressure dry air blast (you can get pressurised cans of dry air for this) Have a look with a light and very strong magnifying glass.

My other half has an Xperia Z and it is very picky about the angle the charger sits in and the charger/cable used.

Have you tried plugging it in to the USB port of a PC?

Today charges are so flimsy and cheaply made. It's a possibility that it's a short in the charger right at the wire where it bends on the male connector. Right at base of that male charger connector the part that's inserted into the device the wires tends to fray in that bend and making it seem as if it's the female port or the connector is damaged. The best option is to get another charger before you damage the device from the power going off and on as you try to get it into position to charge.

Here in Spain I bought a battery at the Chinese Bazar for my Xperia M for under 10 Euros. If it were the battery it's not that big a deal but I can say that my Xperia is very picky about what charger will work too. Keep trying different cables and don't freak out!
