I'm sure you guys are probably tired of answering these same questions over and over so I apologize in advance. I finally got the stones to root my droid incredible this afternoon and pretty much have only done the things listed in this tutorial

Dime Droid HQ: Dime's Incredibly Comprehensive Rooting Guide For The Droid Incredible

The only other thing I did is download not enough space to get rid of the low application data error message by moving a few things to the NES partition.

Now I am kind of stumped on what's next. I understand there are custom ROMS to put on there but as I was reading into them I realized I am not as savvy at this as I thought. When it gets down to having other kernels and how to flash them exactly or how to recover my stock rom if stuff hits the fan. I guess I'm concerned with turning this phone into a brick. Or not knowing how to undo everything I have done if I need to take it in. Or what if an OTA is released. I'm not asking for someone to necessarily write a novel on the idiots guide to everything you need to know about rooting but maybe some helpful links or an explanation on how to just return to stock if this all is going to be over my head. Thanks in advance

It's VERY hard to brick your phone. And pretty easy to remove all traces of root. ( http://androidforums.com/incredible-all-things-root/181255-how-downgrade-official-2-2-a.html )Kernels and roms usually come packaged together, but other kernels can be flashed separately after you flash a rom.

The first step after you achieved root should of been to make a nandroid backup in clockwork, this will be your fallback point if your phone becomes unbootable. Get used to making them and make copies of the backups to another location also (laptop, thumbdrive etc.) to keep free space on your sd card. Try to keep a gig free at all times.
Also I HIGHLY recommend not using rom manager to flash roms, use it to download roms, but don't install with it. You'll thank me in the end.
Good luck and feel free to ask questions.
