I have used a certain file as a ringtone, but now I can't see it as a choice when using settings/sound/phone ringtone. I can see it using a file manager and it is on the SD card. Note that I can see some of the similar files as choices, but not all.

OK. When I go to select a ringtone, the only choice is Android or Zedge, but no others.

Had a thought this am and I plugged the DX into my pc to look in the files. I noticed that the ringtones I was looking for were located in the music folder. Not sure how this happened, but when I moved them to the ringtone folder I could select them again. Duh, although I don't recall moving them to the music folder...
