Theres an app for that ;)

But seriously, it's too much trouble to bring down the notifications page?

Look in market for curve fish or elixir.

The solution I use is to install an app called multicon.

One of the built in Widgets is ringer mode. Which you press and cycles between loud ring, silent and vibrate.

What's wrong with long hold on the power button then selecting Silent Mode?

That doesn't differentiate between silent and vibrate mode. I personally see that as a minor flaw.

Beautiful Widgets! Most people use it for the clock/weather widget, but it also has Toggle widgets. They have both "vibrate" and "silent." Tape once to apply, tap again to revert back. I have those two on my homescreen, plus Wifi and Bluetooth. There's also a pretty good variety of styles to choose from.

I recommend going this route since BW has so many uses..this is like a bonus within the app.
