:thinking:I noticed something unusual yesterday and this morning. At the top left of my screen in the task bar there was a small green cross. I dragged down the task bar and noticed it was an ad of some sort. Then today I got the same thing. It was spam for a free ipad or something from Wal Mart. What the heck is this and how do I make it go away?

Is it coming through your gmail account?
I've been very careful about throwing that email address around for that very reason.
If it is...you can try the opt out link at the bottom of the email (sometimes, all that does is let them know they have a "good" email address).
If it's being pushed some other way, then I have no idea.

Maybe you should try downloading Lookout or some other app of that sort to scan your phone. Have you tried a factory reset to see if that might resolve this issue? Just some thoughts as this is not an issue I have dealth with myself.

Airpush ads are one thing that can do this, there might be other things besides airpush now. There's something called like airpush detector in the market that can tell you which of your apps has airpush built in. (if it's airpush)

Also OP, I have this funny feeling you have someone at gunpoint. If so, your coverage is code 3.

Got another message on my phone today. This time it was a white star with a red circle in the middle on my notification bar. I dragged it down to see what it was and it took me to some dating site. I downloaded the air push scanner and it said there was nothing on my phone. The messages aren't coming through my gmail, they're just randomly showing up. I wish I had a screen capture app to prove that I'm not crazy. Not too thrilled about a factory reset, so I'll make that my final option. Thanks for the help and please keep the advice coming! And yes I do have one at gunpoint.

Yes, that's Airpush. It's a horrible horrible ad app that was piggybacked on one of the apps you downloaded. You can use https://market.android.com/details?id=com.brosmike.airpushdetector
and it will show you what program is doing it. You can then find the offending app and uninstall it, worked perfectly for me. I would suggest leaving negative feedback on the app page first though, make sure others know about it as well.

I ran the airpush app a couple of times and it hasn't found anything.

Over the weekend I started getting airpush spam. Airpush detector worked beautifully.
Turned out it was the BestBuy product browser that infected me.

wow! I feel betrayed. I was getting the same thing on my notification bar. read this thread and looked up airpush. It turns out that it was my overclock app. not good. that app is handy. the odd thing is I'd downloaded that app on another phone I had and NEVER did I get any spam. get a new phone download my apps... a day later this happens. probably an updated version. this kind of spam is WAY too intrusive.
