Help Speaker / Mic issues

Just bought S5 (SM-G900H) from India. I like everything about this phone so far except this issue. If I put the call on speaker the person on the other end can not hear me clearly. As such, the speaker volume is too low and feeble even if I put it on maximum volume. My wife's Moto G3 is at least three times louder. Also, I think the mic is too insensitive. Unless I speak pretty close to the mic the person on the other end can not hear me. On my previous Galaxy S2 and Xperia Z3c I could put on speaker and leave it on the table. I could be even few meters away from the phone and I could still be audible to the other person. I am in a good network (AirTel) area. You think its going to be a hardware issue and I should ask for a replacement? Or is it something that can be moded if I root? I am still on stock 4.4.2, not rooted and not having any case on the phone.

The following were tried already:
-Uncheck Background Noise Cancellation in Settings
-Delete Phone Data In App Manager

The problem still lingers. The speaker is very clear.. but sound feeble. And mic quite insensitive. I have a one month replacement policy. But if this is a case in all S5's I dont want to go for a replacement. Please suggest. Thanks in advance.

Personally, I dont like using a bluetooth headset. Lastly, and most importantly, I have a two year old naughty kid who insists on holding my phone whenever the phone rings and I am at home. So what I do usually is to leave the speaker on, tun off the display and let him hold the phone... so I can talk even if he is holding the phone to his ear. I used do this with my previous phone. But when I do it with this phone, due to the insensitivity of mic the other person not able to hear me.. Is this a price I need to pay for water resistance?

don't know the why, could be.
I just know that it is annoying that the microphone sensitivity is so low that I cannot make usable movies with it IF conversation is to be included.

I have thought maybe using an external microphone might help, but sort of negates the "instant phone/camera" aspect of it.

I just shot a movie of a huge warehouse yesterday. Humongous place, other folks were there with me. My voice is the only one that was audible and not even that so much as I was holding the phone out about 2 feet away from my eyes so that I could see what I was capturing.

I just chose a HTC One M9 for my daughter instead of another S5 (have 2 now) simply because she watches a lot of movies and it has stereo speakers with a lot of audio output.
