Help Speech to Text apps stop after a few words

I am trying out a few Speech to Text apps. All of them don't perform as I need them to. I have several pages of text to read out loud, but I get no further than a half a sentence before the app stops. It records what I am saying accurately, but just stops.

Looking under Language & Input > Speech > Voice Input, I see nothing to adjust.
What is the problem?

Yeah, the Google speech to text engine doesn't like it when you pause.

I'll bet you can get further if you don't pause while talking, but dictating several pages is not what it's designed for. There may be some third party app with it's own tts service for that purpose...

nope, I don't have suggestions on that.
