Help Spell check/auto correct with physical keyboard?

How in the world do I enable spell check and autocorrect with the physical keyboard??

in settings > language & key board > device key board(under text setting)
In the they have a check box to correct mis spelled words.
But I don't think it works. I have yet to see it change any text when I use the device keyboard.
It might be another glitch found on the indulge.

I use to use the android keyboard because it has the

"quick fixes"

"show suggestions"

"auto complete"

options and never had to type a full word yet.

Thing is I don't use it much anymore ...I use speech to text now which is pretty accurate.

I use Smart Keyboard from the Android Market and it has what ur looking 4, so far its the best keyboard that I've tried. I got the paid version but I think they have a free one also.

The built in swype keyboard is pretty good also when its setup right. But that defets having a device keybaord and takes up screen space.

Maybe I should have been more clear. I'm not asking to debate the merits of alternatives to the physical keyboard. I'm sure they're great. I'm asking how to get the functionality I want with the physical keyboard.

Lol!!! I tried 2get the spell check 2wrk on the physical keyboard as it is (stock) but couldn't. I had 2dwnload a keyboard app off the market, and the only one I found 2get it 2wrk the way I wanted which I think is what ur looking for was 2dwnload the app "Smart Keyboard" it allows 4spell check 2wrk on the physical keyboard as if u were using the on-screen one, check it out nc if thats wut ur looking 4. Srry if I didn't explain that better in my last post, hope this helps.

Shatterproof, thanks for the tip. I'm experimenting with it, but it seems to kind of take over way more than I really want. All I want to do is to enable the spell-check and auto-correct with the physical keyboard and not have to replace the virtual keyboard, Swype keyboard, etc. And I was hoping to do it for free.

It might help. It might be the only way for me to get what I want and I appreciate the suggestion very much, but it isn't exactly what I want. I might not be able to get exactly what I want.

Smart Keyboard trial:

Found a very nasty bug in which each text msg repeated the very last word of the prior text msg as the first word. I finally had to give up and uninstall it.

So I'm still searching for the solution to my original problem...

Yeah I noticed the same thing, I found that if u hit send b4 the cursor is actually off the word being typed it would do that. So I either hit the suggested word or make sure the cursor is off the word b4 I send it. I will try 2figure out a solution 2ur original problem and I will get bk with u if I come up with something
