Check out this cool little jumping (I think) spider. I did not take these photos. I have no access to an Iphone X costing $1200. Why can't Android have such a good camera? Anyway, it's a small spider, not nearly palm size. It reminds me of a tarantula. I wonder why it's green around the mouth, to attract mates and/or intimidate rivals? There's probably no way to tell even with these great pictures if it's male or female.

It does look like some sort of jumping spider to me. A web search suggests that it's Phidippus Audax, which is about the same size as this Ashy Mining Bee I photographed with my android phone recently. I've cropped this to fill about the same fraction of the image as those spiders (which are also obviously cropped) so you can compare android to iPhone.

The green mandibles probably are a signal of some sort, but I don't know whether I could guess what. Most spiders are solitary though, except when mating, so if forced to guess I'd expect any signalling is probably to do with that.

Green seems calm to me. If the legs were red, yellow or bright blue I'd be worried.

What made you think iPhone X? The notification bars visible in those pics is from an Android phone. There's plenty of Android devices that are as good, and better than Apple's offering.

    Anyway, back to arachnids...

The reason I claimed that was because the person who took the pictures said it was. I was right there when it happened. It's a phone with square edges, not really big but not that small either. It's black. At least I got to see the spider up close before it was banished.
