S-Off is a great advantage to all of us who want minimal roms, and with this great gift also comes the ability to swap out our splash screens. There are plenty of how too's I know but I thought id put a simple terminal, OS x and Linux, that i have put together from sources within XDA of course.
    First grab these two files

Save them were ever is best for your needs.

Find and image or make a bmp image of your own choosing. Be sure that it is 480x800 24bit image (this is for HTC Desire)
Then using two Unix commands we convert a BMP file to an IMG file type and push it to the android phone.

For your image remember to be sure and save it as a 24bit BMP file. The easiest way is to use GIMP save a copy select BMP and be sure to expand the save properties. In here you will be given the choice to save as 24 bit image.

    1. From a command line type the following and hit enter to run
    /exact path to files/nbimg -F splash1.bmp -w 480 -h 800 hit enter
Be sure the image is in the same folder as the Unix command NBIMG.
