Before Trying This Method:
Before using SuperSU and TWRP, try using one-click root apps like KingoRoot or Framaroot. However, if you've tried one-click root apps and they all failed, then continue reading.
Things To Have Before Rooting (All these are necessary)
-An unlocked bootloader
-A computer
-A USB cable that connects to your phone (a normal charger cable)
-A .zip file of TWRP on your computer (http://www.mediafire.com/file/x1bo7scmrga40q5/lg_aristo_twrp_v3_stable_build_by_messi2050.zip) and extract it
-A .zip file of SuperSU (latest version) and dm-verify disable (latest version) on your computer (both can be found on https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g5/development/recovery-team-win-recovery-project-lg-g5-t3363047)
-Only the SDK Tools on your computer (can be found if you continue scrolling down https://developer.android.com/studio/index.html)
-Enable USB Debugging on your phone
-Enable OEM Unlocking on your phone
-A backup of all your data of your phone stored on an external source (e.g. SD Card or computer)
-The USB driver of your phone downloaded on your computer (Can be found on the
manufacturer's website or just search up 'LG universal USB driver' and click on the first result)
The Basics
Ok yeah sorry that was a lot to take in. I'll simplify it in steps.
1. Enable Developer options (Go into Settings > General > Scroll down to 'About Phone' and click on it > Software info > Then tap on 'Build number' until it says you're a developer.
2. Go back into the 'General' page and tap on 'Developer options'..
3. Scroll down until you see 'USB Debugging' and 'Enable OEM unlock' and enable them both.
4. Now grab a USB Cable that connects to your phone (a charger cable) and a charged computer.
5. Now create a backup of everything you want to keep of your phone and transfer it onto an external source (such as an SD Card or computer). However, applications that require you to save the data onto your Google Play Account, go do it. This is because some of the backup data has a slight chance of becoming corrupted or unusable.
6. Now on your computer, download your LG Aristo's universal USB driver onto your computer. To do this, search up 'LG universal USB driver' and click on the first result.
7. Download the .zip TWRP file (Team-Win Recovery Project) on your phone with this link: http://www.mediafire.com/file/x1bo7scmrga40q5/lg_aristo_twrp_v3_stable_build_by_messi2050.zip and then extract it with your phone.
8. Go to Step 8 and download the latest versions of the .zip SuperSU file and .zip dm-verity and force encryption disabler file on your computer with this link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g5/development/recovery-team-win-recovery-project-lg-g5-t3363047. DO NOT extract these files!
9. Only download the SDK Tools on your computer by scrolling down until you find them from this website: https://developer.android.com/studio/index.html. Now extract the .zip file and put it in a place you'll remember. You should now have a folder in the place you chose.
10. Download the 15-second ADB (Android Debug Bridge) Setup on your computer on this website ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588979) and then follow instructions
11. You are now done with the basic things! Now you can read the Advanced section. The Advanced section gets a lot more technical so pay close attention or you'll have a chance of hard-bricking your phone. This means that there is absolutely nothing you can do to fix it. However, that doesn't mean you can't do anything about it. However, there is a chance it might be soft-bricked and not hard-bricked. Advanced
This part gets more technical so pay close attention.
1. Make sure you have a backup on an external source
2. Turn off your phone.
3. Get the USB Cable (charger cable) and plug it into the computer (not the phone yet). Hold the other part.
4. Hold down the 'Volume Down' key on the phone for around 2 seconds and then plug in the USB Cable. Keep holding the Volume Down key until you see a black screen and white letters in the corner and then release. You are now in FASTBOOT mode.
5. Now on the computer go into the folder you should've remembered and double-click on Tools. Now, on an empty white space Shift+Right Click and select 'Open command window here'.
6. Type in 'fastboot devices' and if you see LGMS210 with numbers after it you did it correctly. For those who don't see it, re-download the LG universal USB driver.
7. Now type in 'fastboot oem unlock'. This erases all your data which is why a backup is needed.
8. You've just unlocked your bootloader. This means you are able to root with SuperSU and are able to download custom ROMs such as CyanogenMod or LineageOS. However this thread isn't about custom ROMs so I'll continue about rooting.
