I'm kind of waffling on my Rezound and sort of having swappers remorse, mainly because:

    - I really forgot how much I dislike sense. I am using launcherpro plus as I was on my dinc with cm7, but the notification area is really not my cup of tea. It lags at times and is just not nearly as slick as the ICS one nor the cm7 one.
    - I'm reading various places that people were able to get Nexuses with screens that a) don't have much banding and b) do not show nearly as much the artifacts in black parts of videos. So there is some hope I would not have the main issue that made me swap for a Rezound in the first place.
    - I honestly think the radio will get improved soon; perhaps not to the point that it's competitive with the rezound, but I think it'll improve.
    - I miss ICS a lot. And the aesthetics of the Nexus a lot. The rezound feels comfortable in my hand and is a good form factor (slightly easier for me to type since I don't have giant hands), but I just don't like the looks nearly as much on the rezound.

At this point, since I exchanged the nexus for the rezound, I'm stuck with it, right? Has anyone ever successfully complained enough to get a 2nd exchange? Or return their swapped device, then waited 30 days and let their promo pricing reset?

If not, I thought I might try the following. If anyone has feedback on where I would be best off doing this (costco vs. best buy, etc), please let me know:

    1. go buy a nexus full retail from costco or best buy
    2. if the screen has issues, return until I get one that's satisfactory (this is where I'm not sure which store would be best?)
    3. once I find a nexus with a screen that I find acceptable (which hopefully won't take more than 1 exchange), then I will sell my rezound on swappa/craigstlist/or similar.

Thoughts? I just am missing AOSP quite honestly. And having a completely unlocked device. I do really like the rezound. The radio performance is amazing. But at the same time, I'm having buyers (well, exchangers) remorse for a reason.

Regarding the video artifact stuff, can anyone who had this issue and swapped out their nexus and got a good one let me know what the manufactured date was on the good one (and old one if you know).

Unfortunately, I'm not rich or I would just buy the nexus outright and not even worry about the rezound. :p

What about if I exchange my phone with someone who has a Nexus. Would I be able to take it into Verizon (or wherever that person bought it) to exchange it for the "screen issue"? I mean, I could probably find someone right now to do a 1:1 swap of the rezound for the nexus, but then if that device's screen isn't good or there is some other issue I find out a week later, I'd be SOL.

Basically, I'm looking for a way to give the Nexus another shot. But I need to be able to swap without much hassle to get a screen that is acceptable to me. What's the best way to go about this, and if there's a way I can avoid basically buying it outright (minus what I can sell the Rezound for), that'd be even better.

    Thanks in advance Nexicans ;)

Why didn't you just get another nexus? My wife walked into a corporate storwz complained that she wanted a new nexus and they gave her a brand new one. They didn't even ask what was wrong with the old one. You don't know until you try, worst thing that happens is they say no.

It's too late, I already swapped it on 12/26 for the Rezound...So that was my one and only swap allowed as I understand it. :(

I just called 611 and the guy said I have until 1/15 to return the phone, no questions asked. I may have to pay the restock fee, but it sounds like I would be able to just return it. He also said the 2-yr promo pricing should be reset right there, and if not to have them call 611 to get them to reset it!

Looks like I may be a Nexus owner again tonight...or I may just return and wait a while to see if the radio stuff is figured out.

*edit* I called back again just to confirm I could return it. I explicitly said I had the Nexus, exchanged for the Rezound. He said I can return the Rezound and that they should be able to reset the promo pricing there, after which I could buy the Nexus. Here's to hoping it works!

I have read other people say they exchanged for a different phone, and then exchanged back for the Galaxy Nexus. Perhaps it's worth asking before you go through the trouble of returning and re-buying in the future. Verizon is generally pretty good with helping out its customers - at least in my experience.

I just spoke to the store and they said I couldn't exchange it, only return and that it would take a day for the 2-yr pricing to reset. :/

Looks like I will be rocking my DINC for the night! lol

I guess it's a good thing, as now I can wait and get one at Costco since their return policy is much better.

i've been to at least a dozen different vzw stores, and it really depends on if it's a cool store, or a store staffed by obnoxious d-bags. if one store says no-try another :)

    Wow that was a process.

Short story: I am running on my dinc and have a gift card good at vzw corporate stores...

    Long story:

So after calling 611 twice and then the store itself, they all told me I could return the Rezound and just pay a $35 restock fee.

I get all the way there (went to a different store than the other one because those people were talking behind my back about the rezound I was exchanging due to some problems). Anyway, they won't get my business again.

So I get there, she starts to go through and she asks me where the SD card is. ARGH, left it on the counter when I took my card out and put it in my old dinc. Forgot to put the Rezound one (which I never used) into the Rezound. Sigh. So 45 minutes round trip, I go back and we start the process.

The CSR realizes I paid mostly cash initially, and they have no cash in the store to pay me back. So they say they can put it on a gift card, and I said fine I'll be in as soon as my upgrade date resets so cash or a card, I'm using it either way. Then this other CSR who had come over (and who had clearly talked to the other CSR while I was gone getting my SD card) gives me total attitude and tells me "you better stick to the nexus this time. If you try to return that again, it'll be borderline fraud. They probably will think it's fraud." I said "excuse me? I didn't know I would want the Nexus until I'd used both devices, and I called YOUR customer support at 611 twice to ensure I could return the Rezound. I'm not defrauding anyone, I'm just trying to go back to the Nexus. She was giving me the evil eye the whole time, but the other CSR was nice and helped me out.

Apparently I have to wait 72 hours for the upgrade date to reset? The 611 people told me 1 day and the other told me it could be done right there. The CSR at the store told me 1 day, then I called 611 again to ask about the 1 day and that person told me 72 hours. So I guess I'll just check it periodically and once it shows up drop by the VZW corporate store.

And I have a feeling I'm going to get only one shot at the Nexus. I have a feeling they won't exchange it even if I have serious issues with it of some kind or the screen is really banded. I am guessing the only way they will swap it after reading my account history is if it's something really bad. :( I guess I dug my own grave here on that, and hopefully the phone I get's screen/etc are fine. Will they let me examine the screen/etc before leaving the store? Or will I have to deal with that one and hope they will let me swap if there are problems? I guess if they give me trouble, I can call 611 and hope to get someone who can notate my account.

Should I keep the bootloader locked until I am sure I won't need to return? I forget, but I can just relock the bootloader and factory reset and it'll look exactly like the day I got it, right? It's not like the Rezound where the bootloader shows as "relocked", right?

Hmm, the 611 folks said this gift card can be used to pay my bill. So if that's the case, I think I'll just go to Costco and buy it there with some extra $ out of pocket, then pay my bill with the gift card this month and part of next month. :) That way I have the better return policy with Costco and won't have to deal with Verizon again.

As I understand it, my loyalty discount is going to be gone anyway, right? So I wouldn't save that $50 going to the corp store anyway.

Don't know about the discount if you buy at Costco, but you should just relax. I know people on here complain about these various issues like screen banding, signal issues, etc., but, if these issues even truly exist, they do on a very, very, very small minority of handsets. If it was as big of a problem as the few people here make it seem, we'd have heard about it from one of the major tech sites or Verizon itself. My phone was manufactured on 11/21/11 and is perfectly awesome. My friend's phone was manufactured on 11/25/11 and is... perfectly awesome. Your new Galaxy Nexus will be... perfectly awesome. Don't try and find issues with it like the few hypersensitive people around here. I swear 80% of the complainers cause the problems by making themselves believe these things exist when they don't, or by blowing them waaay out of proportion.

What is Cosco's return policy and general pricing? Im thinking on returning my Razr but if I can hold out for 72 hours(apparently) and get a new return window, then I may go back to VZN. But if not, it might be off to Costco...

how reliable is this 72 hour idea? I hate "tricking" the system but I want to make sure I get a device that will work just right for me. That and the Verizon lady scares me. Sounds like we have the same pissy girl. I went to ask about the return policy and she, and I quote, "Your screwed if you dont like the nexus" is a very disrespectful manner. Cant say im overly impressed with the "professionalism" of that store. Then again I bought my Razr from a couple of "bros" at another store and they were fun to bro out with...

Frankly I doubt you'd find any Galaxy Nexus screen you'd be 100% satisfied with. All of them have that blue pixelation in dark videos to some degree, and many will have at least a tiny amount of banding you'll have to really squint to see.

The fact that it uses a PenTile matrix causes a number of issues, and at the end of the day it still isn't a SAMOLED Plus. Frankly if I wanted to get a phone with an amazing screen in a similar vein to the Nexus... I'd hold off for Samsung to make a phone with their new "HD Super AMOLED Plus" screens. Those won't use PenTile.

They should let you inspect the new phone in the store... but it depends who is helping you. Just remember to be as friendly as possible even if they aren't. However I've heard plenty of reports that the folks that work VZW kiosks in say Best Buy stores tend to be better about some return issues than Corporate stores sometimes. It was hell when I had to get my Original Droid swapped out because of an extremely loose audio jack. The manager practically called me a liar to my face and didn't agree to give me a phone until I wound up yelling and letting a minor bit of profanity slip. They also did so under the stipulation that my account would be marked to not get any other replacements for the same issue. So yeah... I'd try some minor vendors and see how it goes with them. Ask up front about checking out the phone, and if that doesn't fly, go try another one.

As for rooting/unlocking. Yes you can return a GNex to stock if you need to return it. However, if it were me, I'd rather wait to unlock it just in case the shit really hit the fan and you had to return it and were for whatever reason unable to relock it. A very, very unlikely scenario, but one I would consider out of erring on the side of caution.

VZW's return policy is the very reason that I have gotten my last several phones from Best Buy. At least the two BB's that I frequent have very nice employees and are quite liberal on their returns. For example, I bought the GNex from BB on the day of launch. I kept it for a little under a week, and thought that I would be better off with the RAZR. BB exchanged it without any problem at all. It was an even exchange, and I was in and out within about 20 minutes.

Well after 3 days with the RAZR, I knew how much I missed the GNex and I knew that I wouldn't be satisfied without it. So once again I marched into BB. I was honest with them and said that I just didn't know how good the GNex was until I had the RAZR for a few days. The lady said it was no problem at all, and proceed to exchange the RAZR for another new GNex. And to top it off, she said that I could come back within my 30 day return period to pick out yet another phone if I wanted. She explained that they don't do the return/exchange process using VZW's system. Instead, they just input it in VZW system as an ESN change. I don't know how true that is, but that was her explanation.

Another reason that I like BB is their insurance/protection plan. I think it's called "Black Tie" or something like that. It's $9.99 per month. I first purchased the plan on my DX. Dropped the DX in the toilet (don't ask). BB sent it out for repair, it came back still not functioning correctly. So BB right then and there gave me a BB gift card for $600 (I think that was full retail when I purchased the DX). I used that $600 to buy me a brand new DX. The only thing that I didn't like was that it took their repair center about a week to attempt the first repair. I had to revert back to my old LG enV for that time. But BB new says that they don't attempt to repair your broken device any longer. Instead, they now send you out a replacment device immediately.
