Is there any way to run the stock/vanilla android on the droid 2? I'm not a fan of the "blur-like" interface

Also, a dev is working on a CyanogenMod ROM built from source based on stock 2.2 for the D2...that would get us the very nice CyanogenMod 2.2-based ROM on the D2 w/zero blur or other motorola enhancements. No ETA yet...

Good and bad with above - the D2 Email client is better than the stock 2.2 client, IMHO, and I also prefer the D2 Gallery over the stock 2.2 Gallery. There are also some D2 camera enhancements that may or may not be preferred over stock.

But at least then we'd have ever more choices, and maybe could roll some of those things together.

For now, Epic 2.5 is the most regularly updated and active ROM available for the D2.

What happens to updates after you root the phone? Does Verizon not give you any app updates or just not updates which affect the OS?

You can still accept app updates, you'll just lose root if you do.
