Stock Email App, Drafts: Lost Message as "too Long"

Hi, if you're reading this, thanks for taking the time to do so, I really appreciate it.

Here's some details: my device is a Sasmsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (GT-N8010) running Android 4.1.2, Samsung TouchWiz

While using the stock Email app, after writing an important lengthy email... in all my wisdom, I decided to save it to drafts to ensure that I would not lose it, as I had to revise it later before sending.

Unfortunately, after "saving" it to drafts, a message popped up for a split second informing me "Message too long. Unable to save to drafts". I've searched in other folders but have not found my email anywhere; it seems as if I have really lost it.

I've searched online and not found anyone else who's had this same problem. My guess is that it's because virtually no one uses email anymore to directly write a lengthy letter.

Would really appreciate it if someone knows if emails are automatically backed up in some system file, and if so if (and how) it is possible to recover them... I'm just being hopeful now, but thanks anyway.

    Sorry, they're not.

I usually use a text app to write long emails (Notepad in Windows, whatever I'm using at the time on my phone), then just copy and paste when I'm ready to send it. Text apps have more utilities than email text editors, so for long emails, where you may want search or replace or some other utility, a real editor is better IMO.
