I was having the same problem with Yahoo, that others were having, on the stock mail app, so after reading the forums I found a post that suggested using the "Clear Data" selection. The one you see when you go to settings, applications, manage applications, all, mail. I After I selected it I now have a problem with the mail app, I can no longer see any of the options, like yahoo, gmail, hotmail, etc... Is there anyway to get the apk to reinstall itself without a hard reboot?
    Thanks

Try uninstalling the account in question rather than hard boot/uninstalling the mail app (not sure you can anyway without root). After that, re-add the email account.

Make sure that when u r looking at the list of applications that you have all selected not just downloaded. It should be a tab at the top. Then look for mail then clear defaults.

    Hope this helps.
