I have a problem with duplicates showing up in the list of contacts when I choose a contact to send an SMS.

For example I might have a contact called "Alex" who has both a phone number and an email address. "Alex" shows up on the list twice, because one is a phone number, and the other is an email address.

Is there a way to hide email addresses? I have no intention of SMS'ing to an email address, as this uses MMS and is charged in-case I was to accidentally click on the contact with the email address.

Hopefully this screenshot makes more sense:

    Thanks :)

No you can't. It's by design so that you can send an mms to an email.

Maybe alternative messaging apps can be set to ignore? Comp, go or handcent.

The other alternative is if you're sending a new message to a single person, open.the contact via HTC people and message them from there

Yes you can. Go to people and press the menu key. Select view and you will find all the options for what you want to display.

    I don't have Sense UI, so I can't be 100% sure.
However, as far as I remember, changing view options in People section doesn't affect the selection of contact details at Messaging.

Correcto. People views are just for people.

The reason the messaging app shows a contact with a phone number and a contact with an email is because you may want to send an sms to the phone or an mms to the email. As there are 2 contact points it can't display 1 contact.

    It can't be changed

I went there and "Only contacts with phone number" was already ticked, it seems anything I set at that page only affects the People app, rather than the Messages app.

I will have to try another SMS app, Handcent was too sluggish last time I tried that. That leaves Chomp/Go to try out I think.
