Help Stock sms app background

Is there a way to change the background for my text message area? I saw one friend had his as batman but idk what kind of phone he had. Im not a big fan of not using me stock text message app because last time I had a second text message app off the Google store my texts would pop up in both apps and it was really annoying. What are my options??? Plz help I'm not phone savvy.

Download another one from the play store and turn notifications off in the stock messaging app to avoid duplicates.
