There has to be a way, to create a stock vpn toggle/ switch shortcut on the home screen or even a way of adding a toggle to the top pull down menu??
When u create a vpn, u need a password to login to ur phone.
That is a android ****up.. just made the move from apple..

if you install a VPN service on your phone, that automatically cancels the No Security method of just using Swipe to open.

You will be required to use some type of unlock feature, a pincode or a Pattern code to unlock the phone. It is considered to be a Security Feature as the only real reason to install a VPN is to access financial services sites w/o your info being hacked by WiFi snoopers.

For me, having the VPN causes me more trouble than it is worth, because my bank will NOT allow the VPN to be in service in order to access them via their app. The app wants to tunnel directly to the bank's servers and the VPN prevents that.

So, I don't use WiFi to log into my bank, I turn WiFi off and use DATA only as that is just about impossible to be tapped into unless you possess special equipment.

.if on the other hand, I am just logging into my forums, the VPN is quite useful as it prevents my passwords from being stolen by a snooper. Stops the "man in the middle" dead in his tracks.

you can put the VPN's app icon on any homescreen though, easy to do.

but, I have found that is not necessary as with the VPN running, it will be on the Notification Panel already.

I have not looked for a way to get it to show up on the LockScreen. The only thing I allow from there is to take a phone call, or to answer an incoming SMS

I only use the vpn part time and would be good to pull it via an icon on the home screen than going through the folders to activate it?

Choose a homescreen to put it on.

then open the Apps Drawer and scroll down to where the VPN icon is.
Long Press on the VPN's icon and that will drop it onto the homescreen.

Once there you can drag it around to where you want it.
In the VPN settings, you can configure it to "always be on", or to be manually activated.

the one I am using, Ad-Guard is simple, if activated it stays activated forever as long as the phone is on. Even if the screen locks, Ad-Guard stays in service.

If though, you deactivate it, they have a control called 'Disconnect', it stays off until you want it back in service again.

( on Samsung phones, the "apps drawer" is a round white icon with a bunch of dots in it )

I always drag it to the "Command Bar" at the bottom of the phone.
I have the Command Bar configured to be visible at the bottom of every homescreen. and on the bar, I have the Dialer, SMS app (Textra), Apps Drawer icon, Settings icon....

It sounds to me like you might want to place the VPN's icon on the Command Bar. That way it will always be available in a flash to turn on/off.

I cant see the vpn app within the app drawer.

The OP said that he's using a built in VPN. I don't have one in my phone. So not sure if it's a carrier thing.

Missed that point. did not know that any phone had a VPN provided with it.

so, if the "stock vpn" is not working, install one from the app store.... then you can put that on a home screen.

Not ignoring what u guys have said; What i meant by stock app, was creating an vpn connection from my provider and sending a shortcut to the homescreen. Thats all. A toggle switch would be even better
*i am surprised that the quick connect is not more customizable. Cydia was excellent for that sort of thing

The point was how were you creating a VPN. If you were using an app, just put the app on the homescreen.

you can't "just create" a vpn with your provider.... the vpn tunnels thru the provider to a service that creates that vpn for you.
and regardless of how you thought it worked before, it used "an application" to get it to work.

so for now, quit worrying about how the old phone worked, just download a good vpn product and get on with life.

I am enjoying AdGuard right now, and I signed up with them because they also block advertisements.

While this is an old post it may still be relevant:

What I have used with my native VPN client is the Android App called VPN Shortcut which i found for free in the app store. It is a small and to the point utility, no ads or bloat.

I am interested in finding a way to make a shortcut to the VPN service of the phone. My company forces us to run a VPN to connect to the company. We used to use Global Protect, but we are required to stop using it and set up the VPN in the connections tab of the settings. I have to use this EVERYDAY, and it is very annoying every few minutes when I walk to far from a hot spot, or have to drive to another office and I have to go back through my settings to get the VPN turned back on. They will not allow us to use the always on feature, even though these phones are so locked down no one could hack it to begin with. if you restart Android, you have to know the password to Decrypt the phone to even turn it on. then the login screen password. and we can not download apps that IT does not approve of because they are using a MDM Controller. So I can't download a 3rd party app. just would be nice to have a little shortcut that can take me straight to the VPN and click to turn it on. for those that commented and not knowing what VPN we are talking about, it's settings, connections, more connections, VPN, and then in there you make a VPN to your Company, or what ever. My case happens to be my company.

Of course Cydia is NOT Apple, and your iPhone or iPad must be jailbroken to use that.

BTW, VPNs is a main reason why I will never buy an iOS device now.
