I know this has probably been posted before but I can't make sense of it and I am weeping into my hands inconsolably!
Anyway, I got my Galaxy S2 almost a year ago and it was updated via KIES a couple of times but before rooting was labelled as baseband of I9100xxKE7 and Build XWKF3. (I'm so glad I entered that into one of my posts ages ago!!).
I made the decision to root the phone and then tried to upgrade the firmware/kernel (or whatever I did because I can't remember now). It ended up going wrong and I ended up resetting my phone to factory settings which now shows as baseband of I9100XXKH3 and build GINGERBREAD.XXKH3.
It has never updated either over the air or via KIES since and I am assuming this is because of the firmware I have.
How do I now go back to the original firmware so that I can update via KIES and hopefully get Ice Cream Sandwich? I am on O2 but had an unbranded phone from CPW.
I have seen posts similar to this but I really need an answer with easy to follow steps so that I don't mess my phone up and then turn into a murderous maniac and go on a rampage bashing peoples heads in with a banana!!!

PLEASE someone help. I will repay the person who helps me the most by quietly whispering the words of the theme tune to The Littlest Hobo into the ears of a stray Husky dog!

The latest firmware for CPW is I9100XWKI4/I9100CPWKH1/I9100XXKI1/I9100XWKI4. You can download it using Check FUS

Haha I got a mental image of both of those things...they don't end well :p

Anyway, I'll provide you with direct links to the two CPW files you need; the firmware and the kernel. Flash these two babies and Samsung Kies should recognise your phone again. I'm referencing this thread for the links, but saving you time of looking for the right ones.

    Firmware: CPW KI4
    Kernel: KI4

Kie, cheers, my murderous rage is slowly subsiding now and I am actually brushing up on the words to The Littlest Hobo (Maybe tomorrow I'll wanna settle down....).
Anyway, I digress (as usual), Thanks for the links. I still have Odin on my PC so I remember flashing the firmware on my phone using that, how do I do the kernel bit?

There's no need to flash the kernel. The kernel is included with the firmware. Anyway if you're still wondering, its done exactly the same as firmware.

I have extracted both files now and they have both produced .tar.MD5 file types, is that right?

Ok, so if I just flash the firmware that will make my phone have the most up to date official firmware and it'll then start working with KIES again?

Yeah the files should be tar.md5 and yeah once you flash the stock firmware kies should recognise your phone.

It seems like something from your old firmware is interfering. You may have to do a full wipe but I suppose it can't hurt reflashing

I've reflashed but it is still doing it!! I hate this sooooo much!!! I really don't want to do a full wipe is there any other way of getting round it. On a side note, it still doesnt work with KIES. Kies recognises it and I can sync and backup etc but it says it cannot update firmware from it. I really wish that I never messed with my phone to begin with now!

Oh, and by full wipe do you mean factory reset?

I can't do a factory reset now either!!!!
It tells me to enter my samsung account details (email and password) but it just states processing failed!
Any ideas anyone as I now have a glorified Ipod instead of a phone!

I've managed to do a factory reset now and it appears to be back working again but I still wish I never bothered. It still won't update via Kies which was going to be my way of avoiding all this hassle!
Bananas are going to be doing some bashing!!!

On a side note the inernet settings that ended up on my phone after flashing this firmware related to TESCO which I then deleted and entered the correct O2 settings. I wonder if the firmware I flashed was wrong and I should have used another. Anyone have any ideas?

OK, I'm still trying to sort this out. I have now tried to download the original Firmware and kernel (baseband of I9100xxKE7 and Build XWKF3) to see if that will take it back to it's original state (without TESCO MMS/internet settings etc) to enable me to use KIES to update to ICS. However, the files for these seem to have been removed from the download sites! The link is on XDA but it all goes downhill from there.
It doesnt seem like anyone can help with the issue I'm having as I have had no replies from my previous set of posts so it looks like I'm going to be stuck with Gingerbread.

Strangely I decided to link my phone to Kies the other day and it now suddenly works. It had now updated itself to ice cream sandwich and I'm one again a happy bunny!

really happy it all worked out for you, trying to understand whats happening to your phone whilst using KIES ( BLLLURGH) and reading XDA (full of cant be arsed to read the 1st post questions) at the same time must have been an absolute nightmare.

read some of the posts from the likes of Hawker, Ironass on here and they put it in a way that us mere mortals actually understand.
