    when you plug your phone up to your computer via USB, it launches something called the MTP Application which is part of syncing.

    does anyone know how to stop this from auto-launching on the phone? haha

    I'd be interested to know as well.

    In fact, I'd be interested to know what it's supposed to do. If I need to connect my phone via USB I need to go to Settings->Wireless and network->USB utilities to do so. That being the case, what does MTP do (or what is it supposed to do)?

    the MTP app is part of Kies. is strictly for syncing with the Kies program that you install on your computer, if i'm not mistaken.

    the option that you're doing is for when you've installed your own sd card.
    BUT (not positive on this next bit since i don't have an sd card installed), i think if you do what was said above, you can connect it like all other android devices, which is via the drop down menu

    I have an SD and this is true. I believe (But don't quote me) that the 'USB Debugging mode' can be used for an ADB connection when rooted.

    If you are not using ADB then when you plug in your phone with this mode enabled via USB it will mount as two mass storage devices, one for the SD card (If installed) and one for the inbuilt memory (USB storage).

    I find this a much better way to transfer media that with Kies... Horrible program. :p

    yep, you are correct regarding ADB connection when rooted (at least that's how it was with my Evo).

    enabling the USB debugging got rid of the last ??? i had appearing above my head lol. doing it that way and then copying stuff over is just as painless as it was on the old phone. screw Kies :p

    Sometimes - not always - when I plug my Galaxy Note in, with USB Debugging ENABLED, it starts the "MTP Application" Synchronizing...

    And I'm sure this can't be the right functionality:
    - The "Synchronizing" screen (with the picture of the USB dongle and the five dots) pops up (no, it won't let me take a screen shot) for about two seconds, then fades;
    - My homescreen comes on for less than half a second, then fades;
    - And the whole thing repeats.

    I have no other functionality in my phone until I unplug it.

    And, again, USB Debugging is indeed Enabled.
