Stopping automatic updates

Hi all!
Got this phone earlier in the year, and ever since the 1st week it keeps trying to update.
It says it's up to date. However, a message that flashes on the screen for 7 seconds is "software update unsuccessful." I don't believe there are no updates to be had! It's on Android 9.
I cannot, for the life of me, get this to turn off. To make it quit trying.

Any suggestions?

I would get the phone rooted and out on costum rom on it if I need any further help get at me on tellagram Moto g7 power support group
