Help Storage space not as advertised

Hilly Ho! Happy New Year ... Wellsir ... I just bought this phone ... VSN V.35 and it states it has 4Gb of internal storage in the description, but when I got the phone I saw the internal storage was 1.27Gb total and the phone was 1.18Gb total ... am I missing something? With the apps that came with it and the couple of apps I put on the internal storage available is 306 mb, none of the phone storage has been used. Is this the way it is suppose to be?

The problem is that "4GB" is the total storage on the device, including the space used by the operating software, system apps and system cache partition. So the available storage is always at least 2GB less than that figure, usually more.

(Also, storage device manufacturers always quote capacity in decimal units, i.e. 1 "GB" = 1,000,000,000 bytes. However, computers use binary units, where 1 GB = 2^30 bytes = 1024*1024*1024 bytes. What this means is that what the storage manufacturer calls 4 GB is really only 3.7 GB in the units that matter, and then you have to remove space used by the system).

So what you are telling me is the mfgs make you think you are getting more than what you actually have. Very deceptive .... Okay there was one other thing. I accidentally went into factory mode and it is all in Chinese is there a way to put that in English?o_O

PC manufacturers have been doing it for well over thirty years. Very deceptive. :p

What does the Chinese actually state? If you post a pic I can read it for you. But if you're in settings look for something like this 语言和输入法 (Language and input method) > and 语言 (Language) should be the top one.

Blame the advertising agencies, not the manufacturers.
The OP's was a cheapo thing, probably bought online from China. I don't think that Saatchi & Saatchi, etc. are really to blame here. ;)

"4GB of internal storage*"

*read the small print.

Lots of product performance specs aren't as advertised.
Gas mileage.
Horsepower.
Audio output power.
Health benefits of food/nutritional products.
I could go on but you see the point.
It's all about marketing. Hardly unique to phones.

Often times a phone will be described with X amount of storage space. Say 16GB for example, however this also includes space used up by system files such as the operating system, so while it may appear you have a phone with 16GB, it may only be 12GB of usable space. If you are running short on space, you may wish to consider adding an SD memory card or deleting unused applications. Hope this helps to answer your question.

Remember that most phones don't support moving apps to SD, and where they do only some apps can be moved, and only part of the app is moved. If you are short of space and have the option it will help, but it's not a panacea.

Even though I have the SD card set as the default storage in the phone I don't think it is doing it. Also I tried to use a couple of method to link to the SD card and both failed. One was using the SDK software ... computer saw the phone in windows but not in DOS mode ... the reverse of my other phone. I tried iRoot and that didn't work either .... o_O
