I have a samsung galaxy ace GT-S5830 and an icon has appeared at the top of the display and I don't know how it got there or why it's there or how to get rid of it. The phone is running 'the ultimatum' firmware, it's not the standard samsung firmware. The icon is two little bent arrows forming a circle pointing in a clockwise direction, the same as the icon called 'autorenew' here:

can anyone tell me how to clean this up?

Is it on the top left or top right? Left is usually a notification that an app is performing a task, on the right means it's an embedded system service. In any case, that icon usually indicates something is syncing.

That would be the sync icon. That randomly appears when something is syncing in the background, like Google contacts, Gmail, your photos backing up to Google Drive or whatever.
