    Hello:

I have a new (at least to me) ICON in the notification area. See the attached photo, it is between the email ICON and the GPS ICON. It looks a little like an ear to me.

Anyone tell me what it means and how to address the issue it raises?

    Thank you.

    Hello CTM:

You are absolutely right. I searched the entire manual and can find no mention of this ICON.

Thank you for the prompt reply.

  4. Anyone know what the + symbol icon next to the "ear" icon is?

The crosshair thing? It shows the one of the location services (either Verizon, Google, or GPS) is enabled. If it didn't have the 2 curved lines on the right, it'd mean that the E911 is enabled (it always is).

Personally I think this is a pointless icon, that's just wasting valuable notification space. But you can't turn it off, short of flashing a ROM (or possibly using a different launcher, eg Launcher Pro, Zeam, ADW, etc).

CTM is right. I had the same icon but had just been ignoring it. But..I went into Call and UNCHECKED hearing aid. This certainly explains why, even when my sound is almost off, my phone calls are SO LOUD. It has been awful! I'm glad THAT little mystery is solved!!

    Thanks CTM.
