So I'm in the Bronx visiting my aunt in the hospital...from her room on the 11th floor, I have 4 bars of 4g and am getting close to 20 down/8 up. From white castle nearby, I'm down to 1 bar and .5 down / .8 up (3g was actually faster). From her house I have 1 bar, 6 down / .5 up...

No more than a mile radius around the three places...anyone else seen this kind of weirdness?

Yes, I did observe that on my Nexus when I had it. I think others have not seen this, so it may be worth exchanging it to see if you get one that better handles building penetration. The two I had were terrible once I entered a building. But it may just be a problem with certain batch(es) of the phone, dunno.

The hospital has an antenna on the roof.

After the last outage, LTE service is noticeably slower in NYC according to my own testing.

I was at almost 7 down inside her house, that was acceptable to me...my main confusion was and is with how terrible the upload speeds are. It was like that on Christmas day when I was there too.

I'm starting to wonder if maybe I should go back and give the old radio a shot...

Not scientific by any means. I live in northern CA. Have been getting upper 20s mainly 26-29 mbps on 4G here. Spent 1.5 weeks in NY, couldn't get a 4g connection above 15mbps. In fact just trying to get a 4g connection was a challenge. Return home and back to upper 20s. 4G pops up much quicker when I'm switching between 3G and 4G here than it was in manhattan and brooklyn.

Hmm...perhaps its just an issue with 4g in new York. I know speeds are great in the other two markets I've been in since I got the nexus (Lehigh valley and Harrisburg pa)...

    this.

it's a combo of a new OS and network issues. however, you can always try an exchange if you got it from the vzw corp store.

Which if Verizon has made changes that decreased the throughput in some areas to balance their backhaul loads to make the network more stable: kudos to Verizon! Personally, and a slight aside, I would be happy as a clam if the network was more stable and all the throughput I got everywhere I went with mid-strength signal was 10 Mbs down and 5 Mbs up.

i'm not really interested in an exchange. overall i'm happy with it, even with all the quirks...was just checking to see if this was normal (it's my first 4g phone) or if i might have a bad one.

i'm fairly confident all these issues will be worked out over time with software updates...

I live in harlem in a low building surrounded by larger buildings, get 2-3 bars at home and about 6-8 average DL speeds, work in times square, 15th floor, full bars 4G and average of 18-20 DL...

I gave up on using 4G. I work in midtown and can barely get a signal inside. And even outside it is intermittent. So I've been keeping it on 3G and get 2 bars. :-/

To follow up on this, a LOT of hospitals have extenders through out the hospital also. Mine does I get 4 bars even in the middle of the basement.

The screen had bad vertical stripes really annoying on gray colors and also multi touch sensitivity issues. I bought it on vzw.com and was just stopping by verizon local store. Didn't really believe they would exchange it. They were glad to do so.
Also they told me that gn is selling way better than razor or resound.

Holy crap I'll say :) Do you think your swapping the phone helped or just coincidence?

Nah I was getting the same peak speeds on my old Nexus. See my earlier posts. Same network performance...

Oops, sorry. I saw your reply to a comment that said to exchange to see if it helped network issues and assumed you were having network problems prior to the exchange and that it was the reason for your exchange. Didn't read carefully enough to see that it was the other person having slowness not you.

Last four are results from today...downloads are alright but uploads not so much, at least not from my aunts house (the last two tests)...

I also had "network communication issues" show up once when running tests, but immediately pressing the button again after that the test ran fine...

Milan, what part of NYC are you getting these speeds? The best I've ever gotten was 46 down.

Edit: Sorry, just saw you say upper west side.
