Issue:

Recently my friends HTC Desire stopped working, I've been trying to fix it for him but I've just about given up.

So far I've tried,
-Clear Data
-Removing battery / SD card
-Recovery Mode
-A RUU Flash

Is it possible this could be a hardware issue?

HTC Desire
HBOOT - 1.02.0001
RADIO -5.17.05.23
S/N - HT04SPL00837

Any input it appreciated.

Redoing the RUU is the only thing I can think of.

Were there any symptoms before the bootloop? You could try removing the battery and leaving it out, let the phone get good and cool. If it boots after that then keep an eye on it, especially for crashes when under load (running apps, using 3g,things that make it heat up), and especially if it says PVT1 ln the hboot screen (early hardware revision). Some early models developed a tendency to overheat, which is what this paragraph is about.
