    i was trying to get the gingerbread 2.3 update, it would get 1/3 of way installing and stop. so i tried a few different things i read that people tried, nothing worked. so i tried to update the zip file and i think i erased what tells the phone how to boot properly, is there anything i can do?

    ok that is very good news. so you are still rooted so you can just flash a rom or go to a nandroid backup in recovery.

    ok so we can flash a rom in recovery;
    1. download this Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites!!
    2.go to recovery and connect your phone to pc via usb
    3.select mount and storage
    4.mount usb storage
    5.transfer the file over
    6.wipe cache partitions, data/factory reset, and dalvik cache(found in advanced)
    7.select install .zip from sdcard
    it should flash it. reboot when done. the first boot should take a while as it has to build dalvik cache.

    after you reboot and everything is working remember to make a nandroid backup. they are your best friend. always make one whenever you make changes to your phone.

    no worries man. just remeber never accept an ota on a rooted phone. it could have easily bricked your phone. i have seen it a few times now. and bricking your phone is usually pretty hard to do.
