Root Stuck on HTC screen

I have a Rezound that has been used for several years with no problems. All of the sudden it starts boot looping on the HTC white screen. I can get into the bootloader and fastboot but not into the recovery, which is Amon-ra. Current ROM is RezRom 1.6.

Unlocked
Vigor PVT SHIP S-on RL
HBOOT - 2.11.0000
eMMC - boot
Oct - 6 2011 15:43:22

Things I have tried:
1. Pulling sim card
2. Pulling SD card
3. Reformatting SD card
4. Re-flashing Amon-ra recovery

Also tried booting into recovery:

c:\mini-adb_vigor>fastboot devices
HT1BLS204325 fastboot

c:\mini-adb_vigor>fastboot boot recovery-ra-vigor-3.16-gnm.img
downloading 'boot.img'... OKAY [ 1.479s]
booting... OKAY [ 0.003s]
finished. total time: 1.482s

Still looping the HTC white screen.......

So far these did not help. If there something else I can flash to enable it to get to the recovery ? Thanks.

So maybe I should re-lock the phone and flash a stock RUU since I can't even boot into a temp recovery using the "Fastboot boot" command ?

Ok,

I tried re-locking the phone and using a stock RUU. The install of the RUU seemed to work but it did not help my problem. Now the phone is locked and I don't know the command to re-unlock it again. I've been at this for 7 hours, I gotta take a break.......

I just took a short nap. While I was sleeping I was thinking maybe if I rooted it I could fix the problem easier ? Then I began to wonder if that was even possible with it in its current state. It just seems like if I can get into the bootloader then I should be able to do something positive to fix this phone.

I tried flashing the stock recovery but it didn't help. It doesn't look like anything is actually going onto the phone although it says "okay".

d:\mini-adb_vigor>fastboot flash recovery recovery_signed.img
sending 'recovery' (5598 KB)... OKAY [ 1.209s]
writing 'recovery'... OKAY [ 1.323s]
finished. total time: 2.534s

I tried to flash the boot img again. I did notice the fast green bar on the phone. It must be doing something, but it is still stuck in the HTC loop.

d:\mini-adb_vigor>fastboot flash boot boot.img
sending 'boot' (3646 KB)... OKAY [ 0.814s]
writing 'boot'... OKAY [ 3.921s]
finished. total time: 4.737s

I don't understand why this doesn't work.

These are your issues here... You are on a Gingerbread firmware and attemping to flash ICS based ROM, you will need to RUU to the more current version before you can continue. Honestly, I would find the RUU for 4.3.605.2 here: [Exclusive Download] Full RUU Build 4.03.605.2 For The HTC Rezound

Then flash in a custom ROM like Infection or Tachyon, then use Rumrunner to S-OFF the device, and go through the full Downgrade/Upgrade guide to get the phone to stable, current state before continuing with customizing the device, here: [Guide] How to Downgrade, Factory Restore, a… | HTC Rezound | XDA Forum

Also, once you get to ICS or a higher ROM, you should really be using TWRP instead of Amon Ra, you can get it here: [RECOVERY] TWRP touch recovery 2.7.1.1 [HTC … | HTC Rezound | XDA Forum

For ROMming and customization, you should really check out XDA's forums, there is still active development on this device and the community is better than many areas on XDA... XDA used to have a real bad wrap for being rude to noobs, but that isn't really the case anymore, the mods have mostly put that to rest.

all: Done!

I'll try to flash a recovery next. It says tampered at the top of the Hboot.

I still can't get into the recovery. Is there another way to flash a rom without doing it from recovery ?

Still looping the HTC white screen. Were can I go from here? I ran that RUU, reflashed the recovery, flashed the rom boot img. Nothing helped.

Why won't a temp recovery boot work ?
fastboot boot <recoveryname>.img

I don't know... You should always be able to boot recovery with 'fastboot boot recovery.img' even if your flash memory is corrupt... Try the RUU a second time, it should bootable into the stock ROM after RUUing with no further changes.

I have a feeling there is something more wrong here than corrupt software... :/

Ace,

I ran the RUU again and got a slightly different result. The first time it ran I noticed I did not get an "ok"next to each line, this time I did:

INFOversion: 0.5
INFOversion-bootloader: 2.27.0000
INFOversion-baseband: 2.22.10.0801r/2.22.10.0803r

It is still looping on the HTC white screen. Can't get into recovery.

I'm open to try something else or has the phone finally won ?

OK, you now have the correct Main, Hboot, radio version and everything else looks normal in the version info... To be safe, I would do the RUU one more time (many people have to do it 2 or 3 times, unknown why), then go into fastboot and do a factory default, it should be bootable at this point...

If it is not, try booting into Hboot, starting fastboot, and plugging in the cable. From that point do a 'fastboot devices' and it should return a device of some kind. If that works try booting the TWRP recovery image with fastboot.

Let me know the result... not giving up quite yet

EDIT: Don't forget that an RUU causes the phone to relock!!! You will need to unlock again via HTCdev.com

I did RUU again and unlocked.

D:\mini-adb_vigor>fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin
sending 'unlocktoken' (0 KB)... OKAY [ 0.143s]
writing 'unlocktoken'... INFOunlock token check successfully
OKAY [ 0.007s]
finished. total time: 0.151s

Then went into fastboot.

D:\mini-adb_vigor>fastboot devices
HT1BLS204325 fastboot

Then flashed twrp.

D:\mini-adb_vigor>fastboot boot openrecovery-twrp-2.7.1.0-vigor.img
downloading 'boot.img'... OKAY [ 1.333s]
booting... OKAY [ 0.003s]
finished. total time: 1.336s

Did a factory reset in Hboot.

Tried fastboot boot.

D:\mini-adb_vigor>fastboot boot openrecovery-twrp-2.7.1.0-vigor.img
downloading 'boot.img'... OKAY [ 1.333s]
booting... OKAY [ 0.003s]
finished. total time: 1.336s

.....and Fastboot flash....

D:\mini-adb_vigor>fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.7.1.0-vigor.img
sending 'recovery' (6244 KB)... OKAY [ 1.331s]
writing 'recovery'... OKAY [ 1.259s]
finished. total time: 2.591s

When I select recovery here:

It goes into the HTC white screen bootloop.

This thing defies logic. These things should make it work....:(

So when you tried to boot TWRP from fastboot, did it start and where you able to access it?

Did the phone boot up at all, give it a solid 5 minutes for first boot.

When I tried to go to TWRP from fastboot it just goes to the HTC white screen for about 15 sec then screen goes black for about 2-3 sec then back to HTC white splash screen. An endless loop. i let it loop for over 5 min like that. It won't go into recovery.

But if you just let it boot normally, will it start up? After an RUU it should be bootable...
