Help sudden increase in gmail chat invitations???

i have noticed in the past few days 3 chat invitations pop up on my bionic from people using gmail asking me to chat.

I have never used this chat function ( i assume it's google chat) and i don't know who these gmail invites to chat are from.

Is this spam?

What can cause this sudden spike in chat invitations and should i do anything to safeguard against this happening....like change my gmail passwords?

I got some spam from someone the other day. As soon as I asked who it was they had a reply, kept asking who it was same thing, instant reply. No human can type that fast.

You can open the Talk application and hit menu->settings to alter the settings for this - whether you get inivitation notifications, sign in automatically, etc.

I wish it were more like Skype - that it had a setting to allow only requests from people on your chat list.
