Swapping Desire with new Desire... Will I have to re-buy my apps?

Sadly I didn't realise how bad Virgin are in my area, so I'll be cancelling my contract with them and moving back to o2...

Unfortunately this means I'll have to return the handset and get a new one from o2...

Does anyone know if there's a way of moving my apps or being able to download them again on the new handset?

if you haven't gone back to o2 already check out orange and t-mobiles coverage checker on their websites and if the signal is good enough for you they offer better deals for the Desire.

This whole topic's about the desire...

If you're having yours swapped with another Desire it sounds like it should be fine so long as you set the new one up with the same gmail account.

I have done just that but I am unable to access the game again other than via 'buy'. Is there a section within the marked I may be missing?

I'm not sure about that, hopefully someone else will answer...

Were you able to download the rest of your apps without having to re-buy them?

I only got around to buying one before the phone was replaced. :) I would happily pay for it again however it would be nice to know how to recover these apps. Apologies if I have hijacked your thread.

It is I who should apologise, my reply to your first comment here was a bit offhand...

You're asking the same question I am, so it's cool :)

As others have said, your paid apps are linked with your google account. If you use your own memory card, use a backup app like Mybackup Pro to backup all other apps, settings, SMS and MMS with very little effort at all. SD card goes into new phone, marketplace gives you back My Backup Pro, and within 1 hour you are back up and running with apps, messages and contacts.
