I use Swift key with Textra. When I receive a message and the screen is off, the screen pops up with the message. The problem is when I tap the message to do a quick reply, I'm taken to Textra, but Swift key word prediction does not work and I'm forced to spell the complete word. The only way I get the full functionality is swiping the screen to first unlock and then going to Textra.
    I'd appreciate your input.

Mine works as it is supposed to, the only difference is I use Textra and Swipe keyboard.

    Something is blocking yours obviously.

Any idea on how could I troubleshoot this issue?

I would suggest that at first, you shut the phone off, power it back on with the 3 finger method to cause it to come up in the MENU mode.

    Then select "clear cache partition"

then reboot. If that fixes it, great.

if it don't, I would select a different keyboard to use.
try making the Samsung keyboard the default and see if that works normally.
if it does, then switch back to the Swift keyboard and see if it now works.

failing all of that, try installing the Swipe keyboard and see how that works for you.

I think it is just a minor glitch that needs to be purged.

Mine does this too (same messaging and KB combo), but only if the device is locked. If it's kept unlocked by Smart Lock, it doesn't.

I suspect it's a security feature of some sort. If predictions are active it's learning what you're typing and I suppose the developers of swiftkey presume you don't really want a keyboard to learn what you're typing on the lockscreen.

Yup. Prediction on Swiftkey is automatically disabled on a lockscreen or password field.

I guess the reason mine works, is because I use a Swipe to unlock the screen....

so, when I touch the notification, and reply to the incoming text, the phone is unlocked and just goes to the home screen when I exit Textra.

Makes sense - I was thinking that I'd never encountered this, but I always unlock before replying (indeed I don't think I've any other option - if I do I'll want to change my settings).

The only smart phones I have used are Sammy phones, and all of them have let me use the Swipe feature when Texting from the Notification screen.

In fact, now that I think of it, my S5 has a pin code lock on it, and it also works with Swype.
My current every day phone is a Note 4.

From what I gather, the OP is talking about the popup notification that Textra can have over lockscreen, meaning the phone is still locked, but you have a floating window in front of the lockscreen to read the message on and reply without unlocking the phone. From your pics, you've already unlocked your phone. Swiftkey predictions also work that way.

I'm wondering if this was related to the issue on Lollipop. (Screen flickering). They had to disable Flow from the lockscreen

    Precisely how my phones work.

There is a popup over the lockscreen.
when I click on the popup, it goes to Textra. If I exit the app, the S5 goes back to the lockscreen.

the Note 4 goes to a Home screen, as it only has a Wipe to unlock on it.... no security at all contrasted to the S5 which is setup for a pincode.

I meant the popup with a quick reply box, where clicking on the popup doesn't take you to Textra, you reply right there on the popup.

That is what I am talking about, the popup.

you don't reply while in the popup, it goes to the app. Then when I exit the app, it either goes back to the lockscreen on the S5, or on the Note 4, it just dumps into a home screen.

Textra has an option to reply right on the popup, without opening the app. If you set the popup to appear over the lockscreen, and you reply to the popup on top of the lockscreen the prediction is disabled. This used to be the way on my Note 2.1

Now, this appears to not happen on Marshmallow at least on my S7, since the lockscreen notification doesn't appear to allow the popup to appear over the lockscreen, and clicking the notification banner opens up the app instead.

That's how I have mine set up anyway. I last used a pop-up over a lockscreen back in 2010 or 2011 - it only had to delete or reply to a message once while it was still in my pocket (rubbing the button against my leg) for me to decide I didn't need that feature.

Thank you all for your help--just found the solution.
    Textra/settings/customize notifications/tap notification to open/FULL APP
The secret is choosing full app. With this setting Swift key prediction works fine.

Which has to be the way I have mine set up, it has been a very long time since I installed Textra.
