Help switching the messaging shortcut

I don't typically use the built in messaging app, choosing instead to use google voice for messaging. So I was wondering if anyone has figured out a way to change the default homescreen shortcuts? I have tried everything and finally just decided to download launcher pro.

If so, if you click and hold any app from the "Applications" screen....just drag it onto the dock icon to replace. At least this worked on my Optimus M(MetroPCS)

Yeah, sadly that doesn't work. I don't know of any way to change those besides just using a different launcher. I ended up using LauncherPro as well, which works and performs quite well and looks nice, so it's not all bad.

I use LauncherPro and changed the home screen icons that way. fully customizable, works great
