Help Swype and Memory Issues

I have had my phone for a while, and it's worked great. Except for two things. Swype no longer works (the area is black, can't see any buttons, much less use them) and trying to install new apps will inform me that there isn't sufficient storage space, even though I have internal storage space and quite a lot of room on my SD card. I'm using the regular android keyboard, because that works fine, but any idea what happened to my Swype and how to get it back? I've done all the usual with restarting my phone, removing the battery and restarting, there's no setting for it... And I don't know what to do for the storage space "issue" my phone tells me that I have.
