Apologises if this is obvious or been covered already but whilst 'playing' I found that when in the call log, if you Swype from left to right on the persons log it will directly call that number and if you Swype from right to left it will take you directly to text msg.
This also works in the text message list, where if you simply swype from left to right on the name, the phone will automatically dial their number.
