So since installing GB i have issues with Swype beta. I renamed the 3 usual files, restarted the phone and swype still shows up under the keyboard settings. If i try to run the swype installer, it crashes. Anyone else having issues? Are there some new files somewhere we need to name change or delete to be able to run the beta?

thx

Swype is already installed in GB.

the swype beta is not supposed to be installed on devices that came preinstalled with swype. The versions are incompatible. It says this right on the Swype website.

Try deleting the files. I haven't tried this on GB but that's what I did in Froyo. As for the other posters, it's a very easy process to run the latest swype, as the beta has more features then the version preinstalled.

Yeah, the version that comes with the X is very outdated. You can rename/delete the original swype files and then it lets you install the newest beta swype. I had no issue doing this on froyo, just with GB now. At least i have swiftkey to tide me over until i can figure this out. I'll try deleting the swype files instead of renaming.

Hopefully that works. I've barely fiddled with my phone since putting GB on it. I am waiting for some GB roms to come out and too busy on my new Xoom :)

The swype in gingerbread is version 2.25.x so it is a lot newer than the froyo version

Got the latest beta version working :D
Ended up doing a search for "swype" using root explorer. Deleted every instance of swype that came up.

There were two files with swype in their names, in each of the following folders:

data\app
data\data
data\dalvik-cache

After rebooting, swype was finally no longer available as a keyboard option. Installed the beta with no issues after that.

Now, the above solution is what i did after following the "normal" solution, which i have listed below.

**For those that didn't know, normally you can just delete:

\system\app\swype.apk
\system\lib\libSwypeCore.so
\data\dalvik-cache\system@app@Swype.apk@classes.dex

Reboot and install the latest beta swype. But that was in froyo.

Since GB comes with a much newer version, people who don't want to mess with all this can sit back and swype

Sorry if this is confusing as 'ell, jacked up on coffee, lol

What advantages does the new beta have over Gingerbread's built-in Swype?

Does everyone realize that the Swype that is included with gingerbread is a newer version then what came on 2.2 DX. Check the swype settings. I think its 2.25 or something. I think that the swype beta is 2.29
