I sent the following email to Swype's Customer Service on 7/16 and never received a response. I've searched this site and Googled and never found a satisfactory answer. Anyone know the answer to these questions?

    "Hello,

There are two items I would like to know how to use/modify.

First, how do I edit the swype dictionary (not the user dictionary that I add words to)? It saves every mistyped word then tries to insert that word every time I enter the original word that I mistyped.

Second, how do I start a new paragraph in the body of the text?

    Thanks for any assistance."

I don't know how to change the dictionary, but to add a new paragraph, just hit the return key. It's located under the back/delete key and to the right of the microphone key. It looks like an arrow pointing to the left.

All those misspelled words are in the user dictionary. Just type the misspelled word again, press the swype key, and it let you delete from the dictionary.

When I hit the arrow pointing left it just moves the cursor one space to the left. It does not start a new paragraph. Are you using the Swype keyboard or the android keyboard?

Unfortunately that does just one word at a time. I want to delete all the incorrect words at one time.

Have tried this and still have some of the incorrect words pop up. I have even deleted some of the words individually and they still come back. I have deleted "K&n" several times but it just won't go away!

Nope. Those are the ones you deliberately save. I'm talking about the ones Swype saves for you automatically. There doesn't appear to be a way to delete more that one at a time on the OV standard Swype app. Also you cannot view the dictionary containing these words. They only show up when you are swyping and Swype thinks you may want that word.

Also, still no one has shown a way to start a new paragraph in the Swype keyboard.

These are serious defects that I have not been able to find a way around. Since Swype's customer service will not respond, I am at a loss on what to do next.

I have that for emails but I am looking for the same when texting. My texting swype keyboard does not have the return key. Sorry, just figured everyone knew I was talking about texting. Thanks.

What's a "Texting Swype KB"? When you use it horizontally? The return key is still there (at least it is on mine).

I have the standard Swype app that comes on the Optimus V. When texting using the Messaging app that also is standard on the OV, the keyboard does not have the return key either vertically or horizontally. It is also not on the keyboard on any other app that has keying ability EXCEPT email. All email apps do have the return key but nothing else on my OV does. Have been chasing a fix that does not include rooting and downloading the Market version of Swype. So far no luck.....

The version of Swype that came on my OV is: 2.8.50.12867 if that helps.

True for the stock texting app. I use the Handcent SMS app, and the new-line keyboard button is available for new paragraphs.

Not so on my OV, for example, apps like Calendar and Note Everything just to name a couple on my OV have the new-line key. Even the keyboard I'm using now to type this posting via the stock browser has the key for new paragraphs as is evident in the text here.

    Same for my OV.

Hmmm . . . You're right m-cman. I never had noticed it before, but when using the stock OV Messaging app, there is indeed no return/new line key on the Swype keyboard. In the stock app, on my OV, the return key is replaced with the smiley face symbol :) . I guess they figured that nobody would really need multiple paragraphs in a text message limited to 160 total characters.

I never had noticed this because I don't use the stock Messaging app. For texting, I use GoSMS which is a bit more user friendly than the stock app. Using GoSMS, the Swype keyboard appears the same as it does for email, notepad, and every other text input usage, i.e., the return/new line key is in its normal position directly under the backspace key.

The only other time that the return/new line key changes is when it is impossible to enter a second line and the only use for the return key is to function as the "Enter" key. For example, using the Google search bar, you enter your search phrase and then hit "Enter" to start the search. For these "one line only" types of input the Swype keyboard changes and the return/new line key displays the word "GO".

Hmmm. Just tried Calendar and didn't find the return key. Don't have a Note Everything app on my OV. Went to the stock browser and still didn't have the return key. Every app I have tried using the stock Swype keyboard does not have the return key except the email apps. The smiley face is not on the email apps keyboards. Does the Handcent SMS somehow override the stock Swype keyboard?

For Calendar, when I enter an event for a date, the Swype keyboard has the new-line key. Note Everything is a notepad app I downloaded from the Market and used on my OV. On the stock browser, not all fields allow for multi-lines or paragraphs entries--as noted by dpaultx:

Handcent SMS doesn't necessarily "override" the Swype keyboard but I believe it all depends on how any particular app is programmed and coded to allow which fields to have multi-lines or paragraphs entries, and which are restricted to single line entries. Thereby, determining whether the Swype keyboard has the new-line key displayed and available for use, or that key is programmed for some other function's use.

I don't know what to tell you but your Swype keyboard does not seem to be behaving in the same manners as mine. Are you rooted or has a non-stock ROM?

Here are some screen shots of my OV with its stock Swype keyboard (v. 2.8.50.12867).

The first image shows the stock Swype keyboard in both the OV's stock messaging app and in the aftermarket GoSMS messaging app. The only difference is that in GoSMS, the return/newline key changes from a smiley face :) to an actual return/newline key.

These next images show the stock Swype keyboard in the OV's stock eMail app, in the aftermarket AKNotepad app, and in the stock Google search bar app. In apps where it is possible to have multiple lines of text (such as when writing an email or a lengthy note), the return/newline key functions as an actual return/newline key.

In apps where only a single line of text is possible, such as in the Google search bar or in a browser windows address line, pressing the return/newline key functions as an "enter" key, ending the string of text and inputting it into the search/browser program. In these instances the return/newline key symbol gets replaced with the word "GO" or sometimes "NEXT".

Notice also that when the Swype keyboard is used for input to the Google search bar app, the voice input microphone on the keyboard is grayed out. This is because the Google app offers its own voice input option which has priority over the keyboards voice input option.

The appearance and function of certain functions of the Swype keyboard are independently controllable by the actual application utilizing the keyboard for its input.

My answer would be stop using Swipe. My texting got a whole lot easier when I turned that function off of my phone.

There's no keyboard to answer your 2nd question. Big Button Keyboard, Better Keyboard, Go Keyboard, etc.
But there's simple trick to apply it. First you type in email message and then cut&copy in your text apps. Done !

I use Handcent and I have the return key.

Don't clear sKype's data, clear sWype's data :) I just did this because I'd stored up a ton of "mmmm" stuff when trying to hold the ? key and it removed them all - thanks for that!
