Gday all, thanks for a great resource.
I'm getting to grips with a new HTC Desire, great phone, brilliant sound and screen, but I use Linux (Mint 9.0) as a main OS and want to sync email (Thunderbird) and music photos etc, can anyone recommend an app that will do the job ?
Seems strange the Android OS is built on open source and has no packaged open source sync solution.
    Thanks in advance.

Just drag and drop photos and music.

For emails, sorry I'm no help there.I use Lucid on my laptop but haven't really looked for anything to sync as my main pc is windows based.

I agree that syncing with a Linux box should have been a LOT easier but, so said. A couple suggestions.

Pictures: you could try using f-spot. It's quite a good picture management software and can make managing pictures very comfortable.

Music: Banshee is a very good music player and collection management. Give it a try.

Email: as easy as using IMAP instead of POP3. This way your email/folders/read status will always be synced, you don't need anything else.

Contacts: just found this Thunderbird plugin: https://addons.mozilla.org/af/thunderbird/addon/7307/

Seems to be working pretty well. I just had to increase the "maximum number of contacts" from 0 to 1000 (higher than my contacts' number).

    Bye,
    William

I use Linux Mint 9 Gnome, I haven't found a way to sync as of yet but using the USB cable it works perfectly for transferring music and photos, Nautilus just pops up and you're ready to go.

No idea about how to sync your e-mails though, I use Thunderbird 3 for my Hotmail account and setup my Hotmail e-mails on my Desire too, they don't sync with each other though.

    Thanks William.
All makes sense, I have Banshee and F-spot, I can transfer with the phone in USB "memory card" state .. a bit like doing the Tour de France in a pedal car.
The objective is to utilize Bluetooth to sync photo's, music and email thru a single app .. come on developers .. can't be too hard ??

Just pair your Desire with your PC and then access it using Nautilus/Konqueror ;)

    try using: obex://[xx:xx:xx:xx:xx]

replace "xx" with your Desire's bluetooth mac address

    Done.
